Hawks Sweep Duals Against Millikin, Lincoln

QUINCY, Ill. - After picking up its single dual win over Maryville last week in a tri-meet at Bellarmine, the Quincy University women's swimming team earned the first dual meet sweep in program history on Friday (Nov. 6) night over Millikin University and Lincoln College in Decatur, Ill.

The final scores came down to the last event of the night - the 200 freestyle relay, which Lincoln won. Quincy narrowly edged out Millikin for second place by less than a second to claim wins in the dual scores against both teams. Quincy defeated Millikin, 95-82, and claimed a one-point win over Lincoln, 85-84.


The 200 freestyle relay team that consisted of freshman Reily Kane (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais), freshmanKatie Cazes (Port Allen, La./St. Joseph's Academy), seniorKelsey Krekeler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic)and freshmanMcKenna Brown (Minot, N.D./Minot-Magic City)finished in a time of 1:49.25.

The Hawks have now competed against six teams in the span of three regular season duals and have three wins.

On Friday, the Hawks pulled out wins in four individual events.Brown won the 1000 freestyle, taking the distance race in 11:28.36.

In the next event, freshman Brittany Walenczyk (Waukesha, Wis./West) just barely edged Madi Ewald in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.57, out-sprinting the Lincoln swimmer by more than a half-second in the final 50 split to win by 21 hundredths of a second.

Junior Briana Flores (Lakeland, Fla./Tenoroc/Indian River State) was the winner in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.57. Kanewas third in the event ta 1:08.19.

Quincy's final event win came in the 100 breaststroke as freshman Maddie Rall (Omaha, Neb./Westside) paced the field by less than a half-second with a time of 1:12.55.

The Hawks finished second in both relays on the night. The 200 medley relay team of Flores, Rall, Kane and Walenczyk finished just 31 hundredths of a second behind Millikin with a time of 1:56.97.

The Hawks are off next week before returning to the pool on Nov. 20-21 at the Miner Invitational, hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla.
