TWO AT HOME: The Hawks continue their three-game homestand this week when they welcome Rockhurst and William Jewell to Pepsi Arena for GLVC West action. Quincy sits just one game behind the Cardinals in the conference standings and is one game up on Rockhurst.

LAST LOOK AT LAST WEEK: The Hawks were less than a second away from a 2-0 record last week. Maryville beat Quincy in heartbreaking fashion last Thursday, 77-76, as the Saints' Max Mischkulnig tipped in an improbable put-back of a missed 3-pointer to lift the hosts to the win. The Hawks had five players in double figures, led by junior guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Cincinnati State), who had 17. The Hawks rebounded on Saturday with a thorough 81-64 win over GLVC West co-leader Missouri-St. Louis. Quincy had 11 players record a field goal, scoring 81 points with just two hitting double figures. The Hawks held the Tritons to 38.7 percent (24-62) shooting.

UP NEXT: The Hawks embark on a four-game road trip beginning Thursday when they travel to Missouri S&T before taking on Drury on Saturday in Springfield, Mo. After that, the Hawks head east to battle GLVC East foes Southern Indiana and No. 7 Bellarmine.

SHOOTING STEPS: The Hawks have shown some improvement in shooting behind the 3-point line in the last two weeks. QU has hit at least seven threes in each of the last four games and is shooting 41.6 percent (32-77) from long range in that stretch. Junior guard Nate Des Jardins (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) has been QU's top threat from deep in that stretch, shooting 57.1 percent (8-14) in the last five games. The Hawks are 11th in the league in 3-point efficiency (.356, 106-298) and 15th in 3-pointers made per game (6.24).

BALANCED BUNCH: The QU offense is the third-highest scoring unit in the GLVC and the Hawks have done it without having a player ranked in the top 25 in the league in scoring. Quincy has shown tremenous balance on the offensive side of the floor with 10 players averaging at least four points per game and six players averaging at least 8.9 points. Against UMSL, the Hawks had 11 players make a field goal, including senior reserve forward Scott Hahn (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa) who scored 12 points (eight above his season average) on 5-for-5 shooting. Eight players had at least seven points in the game.

LEADING SCORER: Redshirt-sophomore forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) is averaging 10.9 points per game to lead the Hawks. He is shooting 48.6 percent (68-140) from the field and is also QU's leading rebounder (6.6 per game). McGaughey is averaging 12.7 points and 8.7 rebounds over his last three games.

THE BRUX FACTOR: Redshirt-sophomore forward Scottie Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa/Prairie City Monroe) is averaging 10.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in just 20.3 minutes per game off the bench. Bruxvoort also ranks fourth in the GLVC in field goal percentage (.648, 59-91) as he has been able to establish position in the paint, especially when the Hawks face a 2-3 zone. He has also been effective in the transitition game, running the floor for easy dunks or put-backs.

BLOCK PARTY: The Hawks currently lead the GLVC in blocked shots, averaging 4.53 per game. That figure ranks 33rd in the nation where they are 20th in total blocks (77). Junior forward Dalton Hoover (Pittsfield, Ill.) leads the team with 25 blocks on the season, ranking fourth in the conference (1.47 per game). He had a career-high five blocks at McKendree on Jan. 10. McGaughey has 20 blocks on the season, as he and junior wing Godson Eneogwe (Chicago, Ill./Illinois Central) had two blocks each against the Tritons. Eneogwe has 16 blocks this season.

CHECKING IN: The QU bench unit has been very productive in its minutes on the floor, no doubt helped by the infusion of four seniors in that group. Marty Bell's reserves are averaging 33.4 points per game this season and have scored at least 25 points in 14 of Quincy's 17 games. The opponents' bench units average just 24.3 points per game against the Hawks. Against UMSL, Quincy's reserves scored 42 points, led by Hahn's 12. Des Jardins added nine points and senior center Josh Schaben (Defiance, Iowa/Iowa Lakes CC) scored eight.

FREE THROW STRUGGLES: The Hawks are still having struggles at the free throw line this season, sitting 15th in the GLVC at 66.1 percent (283-428). Only twice this season have the Hawks hit at least 80 percent of their free throws in a game. They have shown a great ability to get to the line, ranked second in the league and 34th in the country in free throw attempts.

STEADY HERM: Sophomore guard Herm Senor II (Springfield, Ill./Southeast) has come into his own this season, and especially over the last few weeks. The 5-foot-10 combo guard is averaging 11.3 points, 4.5 assists and 2.6 rebounds in his last four games, including a career-high seven dimes against Illinois Springfield on Jan. 8. Senor scored 14 points and handed out six assists at Maryville.

BALLHANDLING: Junior guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Cincinnati State) has been a stabilizing presence at the point guard position for the Hawks. While the Hawks rank in the middle of the GLVC in assist-to-turnover ratio, the 6-foot-0, 170-pounder has made ball security a priority. Jackson has taken great care of the basketball with just 18 turnovers over his last 15 games. The Hawks' top point guard has turned the ball over three times in just three games this season.

FITTING IN: Eneogwe is the Hawks' other junior college transfer and the 6-foot-6, 220-pound wing from Chicago has been a force with his high-flying athleticism and ability to shoot from long range. Eneogwe is shooting 36.1 percent (22-61) from 3-point range on the season. He has also shown a tremendous ability throw down lobs and dunks in transition. Nicknamed "O.D." for his middle name, Eneogwe is second on the team with 19 steals and is the only QU player to score 20 points in a game twice this season.

CLOSE & LATE: The Hawks have played 13 Division II opponents so far this season and six of those games have been decided by one possession or gone to overtime. QU is 2-4 in games decided by five points or less, including last Thursday's last-second defeat at Maryville.

DIVISION I EXPERIENCE: The Hawks played two exhibition games against Division I opponents this season, squaring off with the Big Ten's Illinois in the preseason in Champaign and taking on Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference on Dec. 29 in Normal, Ill. The Hawks and Redbirds have now played seven times in the last eight seasons. Quincy played a third exhibition game, coming in the preseason, when it hosted Division III Blackburn at Pepsi Arena.

THREE EXTRA FRAMES: When the Hawks won their triple-OT affair against Ferris State, it was QU's first time going three overtimes since losing to Saint Joseph's, 104-103, in the NCAA Tournament regional final in Owensboro, Ky. in 2010. The Hawks went overtime just once in 2013-14, falling to then-defending national champion Drury, 92-87, at Pepsi Arena. That makes two consecutive seasons the Hawks have taken the defending national champion to OT.

HALFWAY POINT: Saturday's GLVC games will be the ninth league contest for each team, which marks the official halfway point of the 18-game conference season.  Since 2008, four teams -- Bellarmine (2011), Drury (2013, 2008) and Northern Kentucky (2009) -- have led their respective division at the halfway point and gone on to claim the conference title.

UINDY RANKED NO. 1: After being ranked third last week, Indianapolis surged to the No. 1 position for just the second time in school history. The Greyhounds (15-0, 7-0 GLVC) joined their 1996-97 counterparts as the only teams in program history to grab the top spot in the weekly coaches poll. Last week's win over then-No. 4 Bellarmine coupled with a loss by formerly top-ranked West Liberty helped the Hounds earn the top spot.
