QUINCY GAME NOTES | MARYVILLE GAME NOTES | MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS GAME NOTESÂ
WEEKLY LOOK-AHEAD: Â The Lady Hawks (7-6, 2-3 GLVC) travel to St. Louis, Mo. to play the Maryville University (8-5, 2-2 GLVC) on Thursday, before welcoming the University of Missouri-St. Louis (6-6, 2-2 GLVC) to Pepsi Arena on Saturday. Â The Lady Hawks are 2-4 on the road this season and 5-2 at home.
Maryville is on a two-game skid after losses to No. 1 Lewis and UW-Parkside last weekend. Â The Saints are 4-0 at home this season. Â Shelby Miller leads the Saints with 14 points per game. Â Alex Hillyer is second on the team with 13.8 points per game and averages 6.5 rebounds per game. Â Jade Rogers scores 10 points per game and leads the team with 8.4 rebounds. Â The Saints score 74.3 points per contest and grab 43.9 rebounds off the glass.
Missouri-St. Louis dropped two games on the road this past weekend against No. 1 Lewis and UW-Parkside. Â UMSL is 0-5 on the road this season. Â The Tritons average 66.7 points per game and 40 rebounds per game. Â Alexis Lawrence leads the Tritons with 15.3 points per game. Â Lawrence has hit 39 threes this season. Â Kelly McGovern leads UMSL with 7.3 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game. Â
LAST LOOK AT LAST GAMES: Â The Lady Hawks picked up their first two road wins and GLVC wins this season. Â QU downed Illinois Springfield, 57-48, on Thursday before topping McKendree, 63-47, on Saturday. Â
Carly Bettencourt led the Lady Hawks against UIS with 12 points hitting four of six from three-point distance. Â Tori Kuhn scored six points and grabbed a team-high eight boards. Â Maggie Cunningham scored 11 points with five from the charity stripe.
Nikia Edom notched a career-high 17 points on Saturday against McKendree. Â Tori Kuhn scored 11 points with eight rebounds for her third straight eight rebound game. Â Kara Gerbus scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds as well.
HOT SHOOTING: The Lady Hawks are second in the GLVC rankings in team field goal percentage knocking down 45.3% from the field. Â QU ranks 20th in NCAA Division II. Â The Lady Hawks translate their shooting into 73.2 points per game. Â They ranked fifth in the GLVC in scoring offense. Â The Lady Hawks are fifth in the GLVC in point differential with a +12.5. Â This also ranks them 36th in NCAA Division II point differential.
RAINING THREES: QU is averaging 7.7 three-point field goals per game this season. Â They are also shooting 38.5% from behind the arc. Â QU ranks first in threes per game and second three-point field goal percentage in the GLVC. Â The Lady Hawks are tied for 22nd in three-point field goals made per game, and 11th in three-point field goal percentage in NCAA Division II rankings.
BALL SECURITY: The Lady Hawks have had success with assists and low turnovers this season. Â QU ranks second in the GLVC and 20th in NCAA Division II with 17.1 assists per game. Â Their turnover margin of +3.92 is second in the GLVC and 36th in NCAA Division II. Â The Lady Hawks have a 1.13 assist-to-turnover ratio ranking third in the GLVC and 19th in NCAA Division II. Â Carly Bettencourt has a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio ranking third in the GLVC and 38th in NCAA Division II. Â Maggie Cunningham ranks seventh in the GLVC with a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
HAWK VISION FROM THE POINT: Carly Bettencourt and Maggie Cunningham rank in the top five in the GLVC for assists per game. Â Carly Bettencourt averages 4.3 assists per game placing her third in the GLVC. Â Maggie Cunningham averages 3.8 assists per game to place her in sixth in the GLVC.
TWO FROM THREE: Carly Bettencourt and Nikia Edom are the main three-point threats for the Lady Hawks.  Bettencourt is shooting 51.9% from beyond the arc and Nikia Edom is hitting 46.3% from downtown.  Bettencourt is  second in the GLVC, and fifth in NCAA Division II.  Edom is fifth in the GLVC.  Bettencourt averages two three-pointers per game ranking ninth in the GLVC. Â
SENIOR LEADERSHIP: Carly Bettencourt is leading the Lady Hawks in scoring, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goals made, assists, steals, free-throw percentage, and assist-to-turnover ratio. Â The El Dorado Hills, Calif. native is averaging 10.3 points per game while shooting 55.7% from the field. Â She hits an average of 2.1 three-pointers per game while firing 51.9% from beyond the arc. Â The senior point guard averages 4.3 assists and a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio. Â She averages 1.6 steals per game and is shooting 80% from the charity stripe.
HITTING THE MARK: Carly Bettencourt and Nikia Edom lead the team in field goal percentage this season. Â Bettencourt is scoring 10.3 points per game while shooting 55.7% from the field. Â She ranks tied for 30th in scoring in the GLVC and fourth in the league in field goal percentage. Â Nikia Edom is right behind her teammate shooting 54.5% from the floor. Â Edom ranks seventh in the GLVC for field goal percentage.
SUPERIOR POST PLAY: Tori Kuhn and Erin Mennemeyer have started the new year with a strong presence down low for the Lady Hawks. Â Mennemeyer recorded her first career double-double against No. 2 Lewis with 10 points and 10 boards. Â She followed her performance with 11 points against UW-Parkside. Â Kuhn was just two rebounds shy of a double-double against UW-Parkside with 14 points and eight rebounds. Â Kuhn seven points with four rebounds against Lewis. Â Kuhn put together back-to-back eight rebound games this past weekend scoring six and 11 points respectively. Â She now has three straight eight rebound games coming into Thursday.
NOT SO LONELY ROAD:  After a rough start on the road this season, the Lady Hawks picked up two GLVC wins on the road against Illinois Springfield and McKendree.  The Lady Hawks are now 2-4 on the road this season, but they enter their Thursday road contest against Maryville with a two-game road-winning streak.PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE: Age may or may not be a factor, but the GLVC currently boasts four seniors atop the league rankings in assists per game, while two underclassmen pace the conference in steals. UW-Parkside's Gaby Bronson (5.36), Lewis' Nikki Nellen (4.80), Quincy's Carly Bettencourt (4.31), and William Jewell's Aerial Smith (4.25) rank first through fourth, respectively, for helpers in a game. Rockhurst freshman Jill Myers (3.08) and Jewell's Maddie Nelson (2.08) are 1-2 in the league for steals per game.
GLVC NATION'S ONLY CONFERENCE WITH UNDEFEATED TEAMS: With Lewis at 15-0 and the Indianapolis men's basketball team off to an 13-0 start, the GLVC is now the only Division II conference to have an undefeated men's and women's basketball team. The Peach Belt Conference currently boasts a 14-0 Columbus State women's team, but saw its Lander men's team fall to 13-1 last week.
