Roberts Player of the Year; Six Hawks Earn Daktronics All-Region

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team is headed to Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA National Tournament Semifinals, but before they go they have to collect some hardware.  Jordan Roberts was named the Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year and First Team All-Midwest Region.  He was joined on the first team by Xhovani Dokaj, Drew Duncan, and Chris Garavaglia.  Steve McAnany and Ethan Venvertloh earned Second Team All-Midwest Region honors.  The Hawks had the most Daktronics All-Midwest Region honorees with six.

Jordan Roberts has notched 23 goals this season including the equalizer against Fort Hays State in the NCAA Quarterfinals.  Roberts also has seven assists.  The senior striker was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year earlier this season.  The Durham, England native was Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team last season.  Roberts is currently fourth in NCAA Division II in goals scored this season.

Xhovani Dokaj returns to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team for the second year in a row.  Dokaj has scored 18 goals including 11 game-winners.  The sophomore's boot provided the game-winning goal against Fort Hays State to complete a comeback from down 2-0 at halftime.  The St. Louis, Mo. native is first in the nation in game-winning goals and tied for seventh in goals scored.  Dokaj is also sixth in NCAA Division II with 12 assists.  Dokaj was named to the All-GLVC First Team earlier this season.

Drew Duncan was named to the All-GLVC First Team this season and now earns the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team honor.  Duncan leads the nation in shutouts, breaking a school record, with 15 clean sheets.  The senior keeper is sixth in NCAA Division II with a .564 goals against average.  The Florissant, Mo. native is also tied for 10th in Division II with a .831 save percentage.  Duncan has allowed 14 goals this season with a 21-1-2 record.

Chris Garavaglia finds himself on the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team for the third year in a row.  Garavaglia was also named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year this season and is the only defender to win the award twice (2012).  The senior center back notched his first goal of the season and just his second goal of his career against Saginaw Valley State in the Round of 16 on Friday.  The St. Louis, Mo. native is known more for his stonewall defense.  Since joining the Hawks in 2011, the defense has recorded 35 shutouts.

Ethan Venvertloh was named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team after being named first team last season.  Venvertloh has been a jack-of-all-trades moving from forward to defense this season.  The senior has scored seven goals this season including the goal that sparked the QU comeback against Fort Hays State in the second half.  The Quincy, Ill. native has three game-winning goals and two assists this season.  He was also named to the All-GLVC Second Team.

Steve McAnany earned Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team.  McAnany is better known as the quarterback of the Hawks.  The senior midfielder had three goals and 10 assists this season.  The St. Louis, Mo. native sent a perfect lead pass to Xhovani Dokaj in the 83rd minute that Dokaj finished for the game-winner against Fort Hays State in the NCAA Quarterfinals.  McAnany is was named to the All-GLVC Second Team.

The No. 5 Hawks will travel to Louisville, Ky. to play Thursday, Dec. 4 against No. 3 Lynn University in the NCAA National Tournament Semifinals.  The time is to be determined.
