QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team punched its ticket to the postseason on Sunday afternoon, securing the eighth and final GLVC Tournament spot after a 1–1 draw with McKendree University at Jack Mackenzie Field.
Before kickoff, the Hawks honored their seven seniors —
Jake Ellis,
Lewis Chapman,
Paal Vistnes,
Carlos Moreno Henao,
Alvaro Heredia Garcia,
Sebastian Courdy, and
Fetra Randrianasolo — for their leadership and contributions to the program. The veterans led Quincy in a hard-fought regular-season finale that went down to the wire.
The match could not have started any better for Quincy. Less than two minutes into the match,
Mathias Bringedal scored his fourth goal of the season in stunning fashion. On a McKendree throw-in, the Bearcats played the ball back to their goalkeeper, who took a touch to survey the field. Bringedal read the play perfectly, dispossessing the keeper and tapping in a wide-open goal before many fans could even find their seats.
The early strike set the tone for a match that was defined by grit and defensive discipline on both sides. The Hawks maintained their composure through the opening half, limiting McKendree to just four shots while generating five of their own. The second half became more methodical, with both teams struggling to create clean looks amid physical midfield play and limited space in the final third.
As the clock wound down and Quincy shifted into defensive mode to protect its lead, McKendree earned a late corner kick with only seconds remaining. On what would be the final sequence of the match, the Bearcats executed perfectly, sending in a dangerous ball that was finished off in the box to level the score at 1–1 in the final seconds.
Goalkeeper
Jake Offerman was sharp in net, recording five saves and controlling his area against McKendree's late offensive push. Vistnes, Ellis, Chapman, and Moreno Henao all went the full 90 minutes, anchoring a back line that absorbed sustained pressure from one of the league's most physical teams.
While the last-second goal was a tough way to end the regular season, the Hawks still accomplished their primary goal — clinching a GLVC Tournament berth. Quincy closes the season with an 8–6–3 overall record and a 6–6–2 mark in conference, totaling 20 points to claim the eighth seed.
The Hawks will travel to Kansas City, Missouri, for the GLVC Quarterfinals against top-seeded Rockhurst University, the 2025 GLVC regular-season champions. Rockhurst finished the season 11–3–3 overall and 10–1–3 in conference (33 points) to capture its sixth GLVC regular-season title. The two teams met earlier this season at Bourke Field, where Rockhurst earned a 1–0 win with a late second-half goal. Quincy will aim to flip the script and capture its first GLVC Tournament win since the 2020–21 COVID season when the teams meet on Saturday, November 8th (time TBD).
