One Shot on Goal and One Goal for No. 11 QU against UIndy

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 11 Quincy University men's soccer team managed just one shot on goal against the University of Indianapolis on Friday night (Oct. 10), but they made it count.  As the ball pin-balled around the box, Taylor Reis heeled the ball to Ethan Venvertloh who rocketed a shot off a defender and into the net for the game-winner in the 80th minute.  QU fired eight shots in the game.  UIndy took 14 shots with three on goal.  Nine of the Greyhounds' shots came in the second half.

The No. 11 Hawks (11-0-1, 8-0-1 GLVC) struggled offensively in the first half as Great Lakes Valley Conference leading goal-scorer Jordan Roberts was double-teamed consistently whenever he touched the ball.  The Hawks had three shots in the first half.  UIndy (5-4-2, 5-3-1 GLVC) applied pressure at the end of the first half.  The Greyhounds took five shots in the first half with none on target.

The second half was tightly played defensively, but passes started getting through to forwards.  UIndy opened up in the second half with nine shots and three shots on goal.  Drew Duncan (11-0-1) was up to the task and stopped all three UIndy attempts.  UIndy had five of their 14 shots taken by substitute players.

The Hawks caught their break in the 80th minute.  A ball was crossed into the box from the right side.  It was bounced around before Taylor Reis heeled a pass to an open Ethan Venvertloh.  The senior sent the ball toward the right post from 15 yards out, but a UIndy defender stepped in the way and the ball went back to the left post and into the net.  It was Venvertloh's fourth goal of the season.

The Greyhounds were relentless on the attack in the final 10 minutes.  UIndy had their best chance in the 86th minute when Julian Shamsaie put a ball off the far left post and the rebound settled at Josh Ling's feet.  Ling sent the ball high over the crossbar missing the open net.

The Hawks held off the Greyhounds for the final minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.  It was Drew Duncan's ninth shutout of the season.  The senior keeper made three saves on the night.

The No. 11 Hawks will play host to Saint Joseph's College on Sunday (Oct. 12) at Legends Stadium.  Kick-off on Jack Mackenzie Field is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
