No. 11 Hawks Notch Nine Goals Against Pumas

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 11 Quincy University men's soccer team brought back some memories for the members of 1980 NAIA National Champion team that stuck around for Sunday's game (Oct. 12) against Saint Joseph's College.  The 2014 QU team scored nine goals; the most goals scored since the 1980 team scored 14 against Marycrest in the NAIA Area Three Playoffs.  Both the 2014 and 1980 Hawks coupled their high-scoring affairs with a shutout.  On Saturday night (Oct. 11) the 1977, '78, '79, and '80 teams were inducted into the Quincy University Athletics Hall of Fame.  All four teams won the NAIA National Championship.

The No. 11 Hawks (12-0-1, 9-0-1 GLVC) busted out of the gate in the fifth minute when Scott Ladi played a through ball to Xhovani Dokaj.  Dokaj took on the keeper and finished to the far post for the eventual game-winner.

The Hawks continued to apply pressure on the SJC (1-10-1, 1-8-1 GLVC) defense.  In the seventh minute, Steve McAnany sent in a corner that was flicked by Michael Timmermann from the back post to the middle of the goal mouth.  Chris McArthur elevated to head home his first goal of his collegiate career.

In the 26th minute, Taylor Reis sent a ball from the top left corner of the box to Jordan Roberts at the top right corner of the box.  Roberts finished the one touch goal for his 12th of the season.

Artan Emini ran down the right side and got into the box before sending a cross on the ground to Ethan Venvertloh in the 33rd minute.  Venvertloh received the pass 12 yards out on the left side and finished back to the right post.

The Hawks took a 4-0 lead into the half.  QU took 18 shots in the first half with 10 on goal.

Artan Emini picked up his second assist in the 53rd minute when he drew the keeper out of the net and touched a pass to Jordan Roberts.  Roberts weaved through a couple defenders and sent an easy finish to the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season.

Moments later in the 56th minute, Jordan Stephens fired a ball from the left side of the box that bounced off the far post, into Xhovani Dokaj's shin and back into the net for Dokaj's 10th goal of the season.

Pete Condol had a run down the right side in the 77th minute that he touched back to Artan Emini.  Emini finished to the right post.

Artan Emini was not finished as he finished a 40-yard run beating the Puma defender with a stepover and scoring from eight yards out in the 85th minute.

Artan Emini finished off his first collegiate hat trick when Jordan Stephens took a long run down the left side and sent a cross to the far post that Emini finished with a touch in the 89th minute.  It was Emini's fifth goal of the season.  It took the red-shirt freshman 11 minutes and 15 seconds from his first to third goal.  He finished the game with eight points.

Drew Duncan (12-0-1) was tested once and made the save for his 10th shutout of the season.

The Hawks took 30 shots and put 20 shots on goal in the 9-0 win at Legends Stadium.  The Pumas took seven shots with one on goal.

The No. 11 Hawks will travel to Lewis University for a 5:00 p.m. start on Friday, Oct. 17.
