Jack Mackenzie's name has become synonymous with the men's soccer program at Quincy University. His name has been attached to the program since 1969.

At a press conference on July 25, 2012, Mackenzie announced that he was stepping down as the head coach of the men's soccer program. He spent 43 seasons as the head coach of the Hawks, but he will remain as an assistant coach in the 2012 season.

Mackenzie served as the caretaker of the QU men's soccer program for over four decades and is one of the nation's winningest coaches. He ranks 10th all-time in NCAA history and third at the Division II level.

Mackenzie took over the Quincy program in 1969 and two years later, he team won the first of nine NAIA national championships under his watch. The Hawks were also national champions three consecutive years from 1973-75, and again, five straight seasons from 1977-81.

In Mackenzie's 43 seasons as the QU head coach, the Hawks finished with a winning record 37 times, including 29 double-digit win seasons. Mackenzie won his 500th game on Oct. 3, 2010 at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Mackenzie was in charge of the program when it made the jump from NAIA to NCAA Division I and then to its current status at the NCAA Division II level.

One of the most prominent names in collegiate soccer, Mackenzie was inducted into the St. Louis Players Hall of Fame in 1997. In 1989, he was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame, and in 1979, was named to the Quincy University Sports Hall of Fame.

Mackenzie stepped down from the program's top spot after two of its most successful seasons since moving to Division II. The Hawks reached the NCAA Tournament in 2010 after finishing the regular season with an 11-6-2 record. It was their first appearance in the tournament since 1998. In 2011, Quincy won its first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title with a 2-1, comeback victory over Drury in double overtime.

In his career, Mackenzie coached 31 All-Americans. He is a four-time NAIA Coach of the Year, winning in 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1981. In addition, he was named the Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association in 1974 and the Metropolitan Life Insurance’s Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1987.

Mackenzie led the Hawks to the Big Central Soccer Conference regular season and tournament championships in 1988. He was also named named the league's coach of the year.

Not to be forgotten is his focus on being a positive student athlete. The Hawks had nine players named to the GLVC Academic All-Conference team in 2010-11 and had the GLVC Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Jack Wedemeier. The team also received the inaugural Fall Sportsmanship Award in Men's Soccer in 2007 as awarded by the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Jack and his wife Sharon have six children; Scott, Chirs, Kevin, Beth, Brian and Megan. The Mackenzie’s also have 10 grandchildren.
