PERU, Ind. – The Quincy University men's golf team competed at the Midwest Collegiate on Sept. 28-29 at Rock Hollow Golf Club, finishing 10th out of 18 teams in a 102-golfer field.
Playing on the par-72, 6,887-yard course, the Hawks opened with a 296 (+8) before turning in their best team round of the tournament with a 290 (+2) in round two. Quincy closed with a 307 (+19) to finish with a three-round total of 893 (+29).
Colby Robertson led the Hawks throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 14th overall with a three-round total of 218 (+2). Robertson opened with a 73 (+1), recording four birdies, including three on the back nine. He followed with his best round of the tournament, firing a 70 (-2) in round two behind five birdies. Robertson entered the final round at one-under for the tournament before closing with a 75 (+3). He totaled 13 birdies over the three rounds.
David Gartrell finished tied for 38th with a total of 223 (+7), turning in rounds of 75, 74 and 74. Gartrell recorded four birdies in his opening round and followed with a pair in each of the final two rounds. His final round was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the par-5 third and par-3 fourth holes.
Logan Smith finished tied for 47th at 226 (+10). Smith started strong with a 73 (+1) in the opening round, carding five birdies, before posting an even-par 72 in round two. He recorded four more birdies in the second round, including back-to-back birdies to open his day. Smith closed with an 81 (+9).
Blake Arnold placed tied for 62nd with a three-round score of 228 (+12). Arnold posted rounds of 75 (+3), 74 (+2) and 79 (+7). He recorded three birdies in each of his first two rounds, including a one-under opening nine during round two.
Hunter St. Clair rounded out the Quincy lineup, finishing tied for 84th with a total of 236 (+20). St. Clair carded rounds of 79, 78 and 79, with his final round highlighted by four birdies.
The Hawks will be back in action Oct. 5-6 when they travel to Lemont, Illinois for the Flyers Fall Invitational at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club.
