INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University men's golf sophomore David Gartrell has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week after claiming the individual title at the Arch Cup to open the 2026-27 season.

Gartrell earns the weekly honor for the second time in his career after making program history as a freshman last season by becoming the first Hawk to receive the conference's Men's Golf Player of the Week award. He wasted little time adding another honor, earning his second following Quincy's first tournament of the new season.

The sophomore put together rounds of 71 (E), 72 (+1) and 64 (-7) at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 207 (-6) in a field of 73 golfers.

Gartrell entered the final round at one-over par before delivering the best round of his Quincy career. He fired a career-low 64, playing bogey-free golf while recording seven birdies and 11 pars to climb to the top of the leaderboard.

He was three-under through the opening nine holes with birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 6 before continuing his run on the back nine. Gartrell birdied four of his first five holes on the back side, including Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 14, and closed the round with four consecutive pars to finish seven-under.

Across the three-round event, Gartrell collected 14 birdies while carding 33 pars.

His final-round charge left him tied atop the leaderboard after 54 holes, forcing a playoff for the individual championship. Gartrell came out on top in the playoff to secure the first tournament victory of his Quincy career and help the Hawks' A team finish tied for fourth in the 12-team field.

Gartrell and the Hawks return to action Sept. 28-29 at the Midwest Collegiate Preview at Rock Hollow Golf Course in Peru, Indiana.
