QUINCY, Ill. – Collin Parsons of Quincy University football has been named the QU Toyota Star of the Week after a career performance out of the backfield in the Hawks' 56-35 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) on Saturday at QU Stadium.
The Saint Peters, Missouri native and Francis Howell Central High School product rushed 19 times for a career-high 158 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 8.3 yards per carry. Parsons also added an 11-yard reception to finish the afternoon with 169 yards from scrimmage.
Parsons found the end zone three times for the first three-touchdown game of his career. His first came on the opening play of the second quarter when he broke free for a 63-yard touchdown run, giving Quincy a 21-7 advantage. He struck again later in the quarter, scoring from nine yards out to push the Hawks' lead to 28-14.
The Quincy running back completed his career day in the third quarter. Parsons helped move the Hawks 89 yards down the field before finishing the drive himself with a 15-yard touchdown run, extending the QU advantage to 56-14.
The 158-yard performance marked Parsons' third 100-yard rushing game through the first four contests of the season and the fifth of his career. It was also his second multi-touchdown performance of the season and the third of his career.
Through four games, Parsons has carried the ball 56 times for 482 yards and six touchdowns while adding five receptions for 27 yards. His 482 rushing yards rank second in the GLVC and 10th nationally, while his six rushing touchdowns rank second in the conference and 14th in NCAA Division II. Parsons leads the GLVC and ranks seventh nationally with 120.5 rushing yards per game.
Parsons and the Hawks return to GLVC action on Saturday, October 3, when they travel to McKendree for the Battle for the Land of Lincoln. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM from Leemon Field in Lebanon, Illinois.
