QUINCY, Ill. - Quincy women's soccer put together a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 4-0 victory over William Jewell at Jack Mackenzie Field.
The Hawks controlled the game from start to finish, outshooting William Jewell 27-9 and putting 14 shots on target compared to just four for the Cardinals. Quincy also held a commanding 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hawks established their offensive presence early, generating multiple chances and keeping William Jewell under pressure. After several early opportunities, Quincy broke through in the 23rd minute when Marina Oberschmid found the back of the net. Jessie Newton picked up the assist, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Quincy continued to control the attacking end and doubled its advantage in the 34th minute. Abbie Martin set up Newton, who finished the opportunity for her first goal of the afternoon. The Hawks continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the half, eventually taking a 2-0 lead into the final minutes before adding another goal.
In the 42nd minute, Aubrey Eagan stepped up to the penalty spot and converted, giving Quincy a 3-0 advantage. The goal marked Eagan's first career goal as a Quincy Hawk, making the moment an important milestone for the freshman.
The Hawks carried their momentum into the second half and added to their lead in the 51st minute. Rebecca Rheinheimer finished a Quincy opportunity to make it 4-0, with Newton recording her second assist of the afternoon.
Quincy continued to control possession and create opportunities throughout the remainder of the match, adding 10 more shots in the second half. The Hawks finished with 27 total shots, including 14 on goal, while William Jewell managed just nine total shots and four on target.
The Quincy defense was equally strong, keeping William Jewell off the scoreboard for all 90 minutes. Devin Tracy recorded four saves to earn the shutout, while the Hawks limited the Cardinals to just four shots on goal.
Newton led the way offensively with one goal and two assists, finishing with seven shots and five shots on goal. Oberschmid and Rheinheimer each added a goal, while Martin contributed an assist and Eagan celebrated her first career goal as a Hawk.
The 4-0 victory gave Quincy a complete performance on both ends of the field, with the Hawks dominating the shot count, shots on target and corner-kick battle while earning their fourth win of the season. Quincy improved to 4-2-4 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play with the shutout victory.
The Hawks will return to play the University of Missouri - St. Louis for an away game on Wednesday, Septemeber 30th with a kickoff time of 5:00 PM.
