QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team returns to Legends Stadium on Saturday morning to host William Jewell College in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 AM.

The Hawks enter the match with a 3-2-4 overall record and a 3-1-2 mark in GLVC play after suffering a 1-0 loss to Illinois Springfield on Wednesday.

William Jewell comes to Quincy at 0-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference action following a 1-0 loss to Truman State.

Saturday's matchup presents an opportunity for Quincy to respond after suffering its first conference defeat of the season.

Last Time Out

Quincy controlled much of the pressure against Illinois Springfield on Wednesday but was unable to find an equalizer after surrendering a late first-half goal.

The Hawks finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots, a 5-2 edge in shots on goal and a commanding 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

UIS broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute and carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Quincy increased the pressure after the break, recording 11 of its 15 shots in the second half.

Rebecca Rheinheimer led the Hawks with four shots, while Dache Johnson, Jessie Newton and Abbie Martin each added two.

Quincy had its best opportunity to equalize in the 75th minute after earning a penalty kick, but Rheinheimer's attempt was saved to preserve the UIS lead.

Goalkeeper Devin Tracy played all 90 minutes and recorded one save as the Quincy defense limited the Prairie Stars to just two shots on goal.

Despite the loss, the Hawks continued to generate opportunities throughout the second half but were unable to find the finishing touch.

Quincy Looking to Regain Offensive Momentum

Quincy will look to get its attack back on track after being held scoreless for just the second time this season.

The Hawks have scored 15 goals through nine matches while generating 120 shots, including 56 on goal. Rheinheimer continues to lead the attack with six goals and two assists.

Newton has been the primary creator behind the Quincy offense, recording eight assists while remaining one of the top playmakers in the GLVC.

The Hawks have consistently created scoring opportunities throughout the season, averaging more than 13 shots per match.

Saturday's challenge will be converting those opportunities into goals after Quincy generated 15 shots against UIS without finding the back of the net.

Defense Continues to Be a Strength

While the offense looks to respond, Quincy's defense continues to provide consistency.

The Hawks have allowed only seven goals through nine matches and have posted three shutouts. Quincy has also limited opponents to 79 total shots this season.

Tracy has played every minute in goal and enters Saturday with 33 saves, an .825 save percentage and three clean sheets.

That defensive consistency could become especially important against a William Jewell attack that has struggled to generate chances and goals throughout the opening portion of the season.

Series History

Quincy holds a 12-3-1 advantage in the all-time series against William Jewell.

The Hawks have been especially successful against the Cardinals at home, posting a 7-0 record in Quincy, and are 8-1-1 over the last 10 meetings. Quincy earned a 3-0 victory over William Jewell last season.

Rheinheimer opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Johnson doubled the advantage early in the second half. Faith Niebrugge capped the scoring in the 76th minute with her first goal in a Quincy uniform.

Tracy made four saves to secure the shutout as the Hawks finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots.

William Jewell's most recent victory in the series came in 2024, when the Cardinals earned a 3-2 win.

Scouting William Jewell

The Cardinals enter Saturday still searching for their first victory of the season. William Jewell has scored only three goals through eight matches while allowing 15.

After scoring twice in its season opener, Jewell has managed only one goal over its last seven contests. The Cardinals have also struggled to consistently create opportunities, averaging just over five shots per match.

Despite those offensive difficulties, William Jewell's defense has shown improvement over its last three matches.

The Cardinals suffered a 1-0 loss to Indianapolis, battled Upper Iowa to a 1-1 draw, and most recently fell 1-0 to Truman State.

Goalkeeper Jenna Skeeters has been one of the team's most productive players, recording 55 saves this season.

Skeeters made 12 saves against Truman State on Wednesday as William Jewell remained within one goal despite being outshot 26-7.

The 1-1 result against Upper Iowa marked William Jewell's first draw of the season and snapped a six-match losing streak.

The Cardinals are led by first-year head coach Thomas Bledsoe, the 10th head coach in program history. Bledsoe joined William Jewell after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Emporia State.

Matchup Outlook 

Saturday's matchup features a Quincy team looking to respond against a William Jewell squad still searching for its first victory.

The Hawks have consistently generated scoring chances this season and will look to put pressure on a Cardinals defense that has relied heavily on Skeeters in goal.

For William Jewell, generating enough offense to challenge the Quincy back line will be a major factor. The Cardinals have scored only three times through eight contests and will face a Hawks defense that has surrendered just seven goals all season.

Quincy will look to turn the chances it created against Illinois Springfield into goals while continuing the defensive consistency that has helped the Hawks remain near the top portion of the GLVC standings.
