Sprint Football set for Senior Day Showdown Against Midway

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University sprint football will return to QU Stadium on Sunday, September 27, for its final home game of the 2026 season as the Hawks welcome Midway University to Quincy. The matchup serves as Senior Day for Quincy.

The Hawks enter Sunday's contest following a 21-6 setback against Calumet College of St. Joseph. Quincy found the end zone once in the game, with Kiet Truong connecting with senior wide receiver Nasir Carson for a 57-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Truong finished with 288 passing yards, while Carson led the Hawks with 184 receiving yards.

Defensively, Quincy recorded 10 tackles for loss, with Donnell Packer leading the way. Thomas Murray Jr. also recovered a Calumet fumble in the second half.

Now, the Hawks turn their attention toward a meaningful final home appearance, with Senior Day giving Quincy an opportunity to recognize the players who have helped build the program throughout their careers.

Senior Day

Sunday's game will be especially important for Quincy's senior class, as the Hawks will recognize 24 seniors before taking the field for their final regular-season home game at QU Stadium. The group represents every area of the team, from the offensive backfield and receiving corps to the defensive front, secondary and special teams.

The senior class includes Bryson Thomas, Travon Hegler-Wright, Thomas Murray Jr., Deuce Allaway, Gregory Quince, Kyron Dunae, Gedeon Mbenga, Jensen Laughlin, Tate Meyer, Nasir Carson, Evan Lopez, Xavier Carr, Byron Keith, Logan Cannady, Victor Valenzuela, Donnell Packer, Hector Ramirez, Johnny Thompson, Hector Gastelum, Nate Engler, Noah Getz, Landen Lopez, Sawyer Mulherin and Kaden Buchholz.

Several of those seniors have played major roles for the Hawks during their Quincy careers. Packer enters his final home game following one of the strongest defensive seasons in program history in 2025, when he set a Quincy single-season record with 85 tackles.

He's been a force in the middle of Quincy's defense throughout the current season as well. The linebacker currently leads the Hawks with 10 tackles through the first two games and added three tackles for loss in Quincy's most recent matchup.

Buchholz has also established himself as a major presence along the defensive line. In 2025, he recorded 50 tackles and led the Hawks with 11.5 tackles for loss, earning First Team All-MSFL recognition. He enters Sunday looking to close out his home career with another strong performance on the defensive front.

Cannady is another returning senior who has been an important part of Quincy's defense after earning First Team All-MSFL honors in 2025. He has experience from 17 career games and will look to make an impact in his final home game before going on the road.

On offense, Carson has provided Quincy with an explosive option in the passing game. He's already made an impact this year, including his 57-yard touchdown reception against Calumet. Carson previously led Quincy in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2024 while earning Second Team All-MSFL honors.

Evan Lopez has continued to make an impact for the Hawks this season, recording 5 receptions for 70 yards through Quincy's first two games. His experience and production have given the Hawks another reliable option in the passing game.

Laughlin has also been a key piece on special teams throughout his career. In the first two games, Laughlin has recorded 55 kickoff yards and now prepares for his final game at QU Stadium looking to provide the Hawks with another steady presence in the kicking game.

Allaway has been a key part of the Quincy offense throughout his career, totaling 1,705 passing yards and 11 touchdowns across his first three seasons while adding 137 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. His best passing season came in 2024, when he threw for 801 yards and five touchdowns. Allaway brings valuable experience both through the air and on the ground.

The defensive line will also feature several seniors who have contributed throughout their careers. Dunae recorded 16 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack in 2025, while Getz has accumulated 57 career tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks during his time with the Hawks.

With 24 seniors being recognized, Sunday's game represents more than just the final home contest of the regular season. It will be an opportunity for the Hawks to celebrate the time, effort and commitment of a class that has helped establish the foundation of Quincy's sprint football program.

Scouting Midway

Midway enters the matchup as the current top team in the Midwest Sprint Football League. The Eagles return a talented group from a 2025 team that finished 5-3 and reached the MSFL semifinals.

Quarterback Christian Carter is one of the primary players Quincy will have to account for. Carter is entering his third season with Midway after a record-setting 2025 campaign in which he threw for 2,188 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also completed 126 passes, setting Midway single-season records in all three categories.

Wide receiver Ayden Bauwens will be another player to watch. Bauwens returns for his third season after earning First Team All-MSFL honors in 2025. He recorded 42 receptions for 928 yards last season and averaged more than 103 receiving yards per game.

Midway also returns defensive standout Tristan Euell, who made an immediate impact during his freshman season. Euell earned First Team All-American recognition from College Sprint Football Hub in 2025 after setting Midway single-season records with five sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.

Other experienced players on Midway's 2026 roster include senior defensive backs Keegan Hill, Omarion Riddick, Mike Anderson, and Tyler Guyton, along with junior receiver Chase Williams and junior linebacker Kaleb Chase.

The Eagles also feature a mix of returning players and newcomers across their 2026 roster.

Midway Coaching Staff

The Eagles are led by head coach Krae Kelso, who enters his second season as Midway's head coach.

He is joined by Jack Russell, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach; John Hallock, special teams/defensive line coach; Brandon Cosby, defensive backs coach; Josiah Sander, special teams assistant; Luke Guerrero, graduate assistant; and Tyler Goble, wide receivers/tight ends coach.

The matchup will give Quincy one final chance to play in front of its home crowd during the 2026 regular season. With Senior Day serving as the centerpiece of Sunday's contest, the Hawks will look to celebrate their senior class and put together a strong performance against a talented Midway squad before beginning the final stretch of their season on the road.

The Hawks and Eagles will meet at 11:00 AM on Sunday, September 27th at QU Stadium.
