ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Quincy University women's soccer team battled to a 0–0 draw against Lewis University on Wednesday evening at Lewis Stadium. The Hawks put together a strong defensive performance while creating several opportunities of their own.
Quincy goalkeeper Devin Tracy played all 90 minutes in net, recording three saves to help the Hawks secure the shutout. Tracy's performance added another milestone to her sophomore season, as she has surpassed 2,000 career minutes in a Quincy uniform.
The Hawks generated 11 shots throughout the match, including five on target. Jessie Newton led Quincy's offensive attack with five shots, three of which were on goal. Newton's continued playmaking has helped her climb to the top of the conference, where she currently leads in assists.
Rebecca Rheinheimer also created several chances for the Hawks, finishing with four shots and one shot on goal. Rheinheimer continues to be one of the conference's leading offensive players, ranking third in goals and third in points for the season.
Quincy came out with pressure in the first half, recording four shots and earning two corner kicks. Rheinheimer tested Lewis goalkeeper Jillian Barth with a shot in the 33rd minute, while another attempt was blocked shortly before that. Emily Richardson also created a chance for the Hawks in the opening half.
The Hawks continued to push forward in the second half, recording seven shots and five corner kicks. Newton had several opportunities, including a pair of shots saved by Barth and two blocked attempts. Dache Johnson forced a save early in the second half, while Tracy made an important stop on a late Lewis chance to preserve the shutout.
Lewis finished with three shots, placing two on target. Goalkeeper Jillian Barth recorded five saves for the Flyers, helping keep the match scoreless. Lewis also earned one corner kick in the first half and three in the second, but the Hawks' defense held firm throughout the evening.
The scoreless result marked a hard-fought match between the two conference opponents, with both teams maintaining a strong defensive presence throughout the evening.
Quincy will look to build on Wednesday's performance as the Hawks continue their conference schedule. Competition continues as Quincy will travel to Rockhurst University on Saturday, September 19th with a kickoff time of 12:00 PM.
