QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team returns to Legends Stadium Saturday afternoon for its 2026 home opener as the Hawks welcome St. Cloud State University for a noon kickoff.

Quincy enters the matchup 0-1 after falling 2-1 on the road at Parkside in Thursday's season opener. St. Cloud State comes to Quincy with a 1-0 record after earning a 3-2 road victory over Truman State.

Saturday will mark just the second all-time meeting between the two programs after the Hawks and Huskies played to a 1-1 draw last season in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Last Time Out

Quincy fell behind early Thursday as Parkside scored twice inside the opening 30 minutes and forced the Hawks to chase the match from behind.

The Rangers finished with 21 shots, including eight on goal.

With expected starting goalkeeper Jake Offerman unavailable due to injury, Max Frericks made his collegiate debut in goal for the Hawks and recorded six saves.

Quincy found its lone goal just before halftime when John Drew scored the first goal of his collegiate career in his collegiate debut.

The goal gave the Hawks some momentum going into the break, but Quincy was unable to find an equalizer in the second half. The Hawks finished with 12 shots but placed only two on frame.

First Meeting Ends Even

Quincy and St. Cloud State met for the first time last season in what was just the sixth year of the Huskies' men's soccer program.

The Hawks wasted little time getting on the board as Carlos Moreno Henao scored just over two minutes into the match at Husky Stadium.

St. Cloud State answered in the 21st minute, and neither side was able to break the tie the rest of the way.

Quincy finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on goal compared to six for the Huskies. The Hawks also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Offerman made five saves in the draw.

With Moreno Henao having graduated after leading Quincy in scoring last season, Saturday provides another opportunity for new attacking options to emerge. Drew offered an early answer Thursday with his first career goal.

Scouting St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State enters 2026 looking to climb the GLIAC standings after finishing 4-12-1 overall and 2-10 in conference play last season.

The Huskies finished seventh in the league and were picked to finish seventh again in the 2026 GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Head coach Sean Holmes enters his seventh season leading the program after being at the helm since its inaugural season. Holmes enters the year with a 24-49-13 record.

St. Cloud State returns 19 of 34 players from last year's roster and brings back nine of the 15 goals scored in 2025.

Garcia Starts Fast

Senior Andrés García headlines the returning attack after leading St. Cloud State with 11 points on five goals and one assist last season.

He wasted little time showing that scoring form Thursday.

García scored all three goals in St. Cloud State's 3-2 victory over Truman State, with each goal coming in the second half.

His first brought the Huskies level before he scored again to tie the match at 2-2 in the 75th minute.

García then completed the hat trick in the 87th minute, converting a penalty kick for the game-winning goal.

After accounting for one-third of St. Cloud State's goals last season, García has already scored three times through one match in 2026.

A Different-Looking Attack

The Huskies struggled to consistently create offense last season. St. Cloud State scored just 15 goals across 17 matches, an average of 0.88 per contest, and was shut out seven times.

The Huskies showed signs of a more dangerous attack in their opener, however, scoring three times in the second half against Truman State.

That production will provide an early test for a Quincy defense looking to settle in after facing 21 shots Thursday at Parkside.

St. Cloud State allowed 30 goals last season, an average of 1.76 per match, while recording three shutouts.

New Face in Goal

St. Cloud State also enters the season with a new goalkeeper.

Redshirt freshman Erik Willke made his Husky debut in Thursday's win over Truman State, playing all 90 minutes and recording six saves.

That creates another interesting early-season storyline, with both programs potentially relying on relatively inexperienced goalkeepers depending on Offerman's availability for Quincy.

Frericks handled the responsibility well in his first collegiate appearance Thursday, making six saves despite the loss.

Back at Legends Stadium

Saturday marks Quincy's first home appearance of the new season after opening on the road in Kenosha.

The Hawks will look to turn Thursday's encouraging moments into a more complete performance, particularly in the attacking third.

Quincy generated 12 shots against Parkside but put only two on goal. Against a St. Cloud State side that surrendered 30 goals last season, generating more quality chances and forcing Willke into action could be a key to the matchup.

The Hawks will also look to limit García after his three-goal performance Thursday and keep St. Cloud State from establishing the second-half momentum it found against Truman.

Looking for Win No. 1

Both programs enter Saturday with something to prove.

St. Cloud State will look to build on an opening-day road victory and the early scoring surge from its top returning attacker. While Quincy will look to bounce back from its season-opening loss, earn its first victory of 2026 and start its home slate on a positive note.

The Hawks will also try to take the lead in a young series that began with last year's 1-1 draw.

Kickoff between Quincy and St. Cloud State is scheduled for 12 PM Saturday, August 29, at Legends Stadium.
