Hawks Close Regular Season at Truman With GLVC Tournament Berth in Reach

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team closes the 2026 regular season Wednesday, October 21, traveling to Kirksville, Missouri, for a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Truman State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Stokes Stadium.

Quincy enters the finale at 6-3-7 overall and 5-2-6 in GLVC play following a 2-0 road loss to No. 15 Lincoln on Sunday. Truman State comes into the matchup at 5-5-4 overall and 4-4-4 in conference action after falling 1-0 to Lewis.

With the regular season down to its final match, the postseason picture is beginning to take shape. Quincy sits fifth in the GLVC with 21 points and needs just one point Wednesday to secure a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Last Time Out

Quincy faced one of the top teams in the conference Sunday, falling 2-0 on the road against undefeated No. 15 Lincoln.

The Blue Tigers struck early when Jonathan Nemorden opened the scoring at the 4:04 mark. Lincoln carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime while holding a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Hawks remained within striking distance before Nemorden scored his second goal of the match at 74:47 to double the advantage.

Quincy finished with eight shots, placing five on goal, while Lincoln recorded 14 attempts and seven on target. The Blue Tigers also held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Leo Cann put both of his attempts on goal, while Josh Nwosu added two shots. Goalkeeper Jake Offerman made five saves over 90 minutes, matching the Lincoln goalkeepers' combined total and helping keep Quincy within reach throughout the match.

One Point Secures Postseason Berth

Wednesday provides Quincy with an opportunity to officially punch its ticket to the GLVC Tournament.

The Hawks enter the final day of their regular season in fifth place with 21 points. Indianapolis sits one point ahead with 22, while Missouri S&T follows Quincy with 19 and Missouri-St. Louis has 18. Lincoln and Drury lead the conference with 27 points, while Maryville sits third with 24. All three have already clinched postseason berths.

A Quincy victory would move the Hawks to 24 points, while a draw would give them 22. Either result would guarantee Quincy a place in the eight-team conference tournament field for the second consecutive season.

A top-four seed and home quarterfinal remains mathematically possible, but the Hawks would need a victory Wednesday along with several favorable results around the conference.

Cann Continues to Lead Quincy Attack

Quincy enters Wednesday with 23 goals through 16 matches.

Cann continues to lead the attack with 10 goals and three assists, including both Quincy goals in the Hawks' 2-2 draw against Upper Iowa before Sunday's trip to Lincoln. The junior has recorded three multi-goal performances this season.

Nwosu follows with five goals and two assists, providing another dangerous option in the attacking third.

After being held scoreless by Lincoln, Quincy will look to rediscover the attacking pressure that resulted in 32 shots against Upper Iowa just four days earlier.

Hawks Tasked With Slowing Panagos

Truman's offense centers heavily around Jacob Panagos.

The Bulldogs have scored 22 goals this season, with Panagos accounting for 13 of them, nearly 60 percent of Truman's total offensive production. He has also added one assist.

Panagos entered the season after leading Truman with seven goals, two assists and 16 points in 2025, earning Second Team All-GLVC honors.

Brady Lombardo follows with three goals, but no other Bulldog approaches Panagos' scoring total.

That makes limiting Panagos' opportunities one of the clearest defensive priorities for Quincy.

The Hawks have allowed just 14 goals through 16 matches, holding opponents below one goal per game on average.

Offerman has anchored the defense with 39 saves and six shutouts.

Scouting Truman State

Truman enters Wednesday at 5-5-4 overall and 4-4-4 in GLVC play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0 loss to Lewis.

The teams each attempted 13 shots, but Lewis held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Hampus Ryno scored the only goal in the 35th minute.

Truman goalkeeper Owen Robben kept the Bulldogs within one throughout the match, making seven saves. Robben enters Wednesday with 62 saves and three shutouts this season.

Offensively, Truman averages approximately 11.2 shots and 1.57 goals per contest. The Bulldogs have scored 22 goals while allowing 24.

Truman was selected 12th in the GLVC preseason coaches poll after finishing 3-10-3 overall and 2-10-2 in conference play last season.

The Bulldogs returned a significant amount of that team's offensive production, including players responsible for 15 of their 18 goals and 37 of their 45 points.

Head coach Duke Cochran is in his 22nd season leading the program.

Truman Fighting to Stay in Tournament Race

Wednesday is equally important for the Bulldogs.

Truman currently occupies eighth place with 16 points, holding a two-point advantage over both Southwest Baptist and Lewis.

Unlike Quincy, Truman still has one additional regular-season match remaining after Wednesday, traveling to Indianapolis on Saturday.

A result against the Hawks would help the Bulldogs protect their position inside the eight-team tournament field before their finale.

That creates significant postseason stakes on both sides, with Quincy attempting to clinch its place and Truman trying to hold onto one of the final spots.

Series History

Truman State holds a 16-15-4 advantage in the series against Quincy dating back to 1984.

The Bulldogs earned a 1-0 victory at Jack Mackenzie Field last season despite Quincy controlling much of the possession and shot volume.

The match remained scoreless through halftime before Nathan Grewe scored the eventual game-winner at 52:11.

Quincy responded with consistent second-half pressure but could not find the equalizer. The Hawks finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots, including 12 attempts after halftime. Despite that advantage, each side placed only one shot on goal.

Cann led Quincy with four attempts, while Nwosu added three.

The teams also committed 12 fouls apiece.

Quincy will look to turn that shot production into goals this time around while earning a valuable result on the road.

Matchup Outlook

Wednesday's regular-season finale carries postseason implications for both programs.

Quincy controls the simplest path.

A win or draw secures the Hawks' second consecutive GLVC Tournament appearance, while three points would also give Quincy an opportunity to improve its final seed depending on results around the league.

Truman enters with a different type of pressure, currently holding the final tournament position and needing points to stay ahead of the teams chasing from behind.

For Quincy, limiting Panagos will be one of the biggest defensive priorities. He has accounted for well over half of Truman's goals, making the Bulldogs' leading scorer the focal point of the matchup.

Offensively, Cann, Nwosu and the Hawks will look to generate the type of pressure they created against Upper Iowa while turning more of those opportunities into dangerous chances on goal.

After returning to the GLVC Tournament last season, Quincy has an opportunity Wednesday to make consecutive postseason appearances for the first time in the current stretch of the program.

Kickoff between Quincy and Truman State is scheduled for 7:30 PM Wednesday at Stokes Stadium in Kirksville, Missouri.
