KENOSHA, Wis. – The Quincy University men's soccer team opened the 2026 season Thursday afternoon at Wood Road Field, falling 2-1 to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Rangers avenged last season's 5-0 defeat to Quincy at Legends Stadium and moved ahead 19-18-1 in the all-time series. Parkside has now won four straight meetings against the Hawks in Kenosha.
Parkside struck first in the 20th minute. Keven Sosa converted a free kick from just outside the box, sending a low effort inside the left post to give the Rangers a 1-0 advantage.
Quincy nearly answered two minutes later when
Josh Nwosu put an attempt on frame, but Parkside goalkeeper Mateusz Pass made the save.
The Rangers doubled their advantage in the 29th minute. Hudson Scheiber played a long ball forward to Angel Luevano, who finished a one-on-one opportunity inside the left post to make it 2-0.
The Hawks found an answer just before halftime behind
John Drew. With only 16 seconds remaining in the opening period,
Isaac Guillory and
Rodrigo Bandeira combined to set up Drew, who found the back of the net to pull Quincy within 2-1 entering the break.
The goal was the first of Drew's collegiate career and came in his collegiate debut during his fourth season with the program. Guillory also recorded the first point of his career with an assist, while Bandeira picked up his first point in a Quincy uniform as part of the double assist.
Neither side found the net in the second half. Quincy generated six shots over the final 45 minutes, including late attempts from Guillory,
Leo Cann and Drew, but could not produce the equalizer.
Max Frericks made his first career start in goal for the Hawks and finished with six saves. Parkside held a 21-12 advantage in total shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, while the Rangers narrowly led 4-3 in corner kicks.
Thursday also featured several first appearances in a Quincy uniform. Freshman
Erik Abraham and redshirt freshman
Isaac Guillory made their collegiate debuts, while
Riley White,
Jose Perez and
Rodrigo Bandeira each made their QU debuts. Abraham, Guillory, White and Perez were all part of the starting XI.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, August 29, when they open their home schedule against St. Cloud State University at 12:00 PM from Legends Stadium.
