QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University baseball team continued its dominance at QU Stadium on Friday afternoon, defeating Missouri-St. Louis 12–5 in the opening game of the series. The Hawks have now won three straight over the Tritons, improving to 12-1 at home and extending their home winning streak to eight games while moving to 18-7 overall.
Quincy wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning as
Ben Dahlof launched his first home run of the season on the first pitch he saw to give the Hawks an early 1–0 lead. The homer marked the fourth of his career and extended his hitting streak to six games.
After a quiet second inning, the Hawks broke things open in the third.
Jace Figuereo delivered a two-run home run, his second of the season and career, to extend the lead before
Payton Mansfield followed later in the inning with his third home run of the year. The power surge pushed Quincy's lead to 4–0.
Quincy continued to add on in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly from Figuereo before Missouri-St. Louis responded in the fifth inning with a four-run frame behind a pair of two-run shots to cut the deficit to 5–4. The Hawks answered immediately in the bottom half as a two-run double from
Patrick Mendiola helped extend the lead back to 7–4.
The game remained within reach until Quincy delivered the decisive blow in the seventh inning. After reaching base,
Carson Moreno launched a no-doubt two-run home run, his fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead in long balls with
David Broughton and
Ari Fivelson. The Hawks continued to capitalize on miscues, adding multiple runs in the inning, including an RBI triple from Dahlof and a second sacrifice fly from Figuereo to stretch the lead to 12–5 and put the game out of reach.
On the mound,
Roman Harrison earned the win, improving to 4-1 after tossing 6.2 innings while allowing five runs. Out of the bullpen,
Matt Miscik delivered his third scoreless outing of the season and now holds a 1.93 ERA over his last four appearances.
Quinn Schultz also added a scoreless frame to close the ninth inning in his second appearance of the year, with both outings ending without allowing a run.
Offensively, Quincy totaled 13 hits in the win. Figuereo led the way with four RBIs, tying his career high and moving his RBI total to 16.
Isaiah Fudge continued his incredible stretch, going 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, while also recording his seventh consecutive multi-hit game and fourth game with at least three hits this season, raising his average to .455.
The Hawks will remain at QU Stadium for a doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis, beginning at 12:00 PM, as they look to continue their strong play at home.
