WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Quincy University women's lacrosse team saw its losing streak move to three games on Wednesday afternoon, falling 10-5 to Palm Beach Atlantic in spring break action.
The Hawks struggled offensively throughout the contest, finishing with a season-low five goals and just 18 total shots, while committing a season-high 31 turnovers in the loss.
Palm Beach Atlantic struck early with two goals in the opening minutes before
Emily Leal got Quincy on the board at the 3:02 mark of the first quarter off an assist from
Amelia Ham. The Sailfish added another late goal to take a 3-1 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Palm Beach Atlantic extended its lead to 5-1 before Leal sparked a brief Hawks rally. The senior scored back-to-back goals, including a free-position conversion and a late tally with 35 seconds remaining in the half, cutting the deficit to 5-3 at the break.
The third quarter proved to be the difference, as Palm Beach Atlantic controlled possession and outscored Quincy 4-0 in the frame to push the lead to 9-3. The Hawks were held scoreless in the quarter while continuing to struggle with turnovers and limited draw control opportunities.
Quincy found the net twice in the fourth quarter, with Leal completing her four-goal performance and
Anni Moran adding a late goal off a Leal assist, but the third quarter proved too much to overcome in the 10-5 final.
The Hawks were held to season lows in goals (5), shots (18), and draw controls (8), limiting their offensive opportunities throughout the game. Turnovers were the biggest factor, as Quincy committed a season-high 31 turnovers, compared to 24 for Palm Beach Atlantic. Despite the struggles, Quincy remained competitive on the defensive end, recording 22 ground balls and forcing multiple key turnovers to stay within reach early.
Leal led the Hawks offensively with four goals and one assist for five points, while also reaching a major milestone with her 100th career point. On the defensive side,
Mikenna Ham delivered a standout performance, recording five caused turnovers for the second time this season. With that effort, she became Quincy's all-time leader in caused turnovers, surpassing the previous record of 74 and now sitting at 79 and counting.
Jenna Lang added a career-high three caused turnovers, contributing to Quincy's defensive pressure throughout the contest.
Offensively, both
Amelia Ham and
Alaina Wilkinson saw streaks come to an end.
Amelia Ham was held scoreless for the first time since February 28, 2024, snapping a streak of 35 consecutive games with a goal, while Wilkinson was held without a goal for the first time this season.
The Hawks will face another tough test as they take on No. 6 Embry-Riddle University on Saturday, March 21, with the opening draw scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
