QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's tennis team faced a tough test on Saturday afternoon, taking on the 24th-ranked NAIA program from William Woods University at the Quincy Racquet Club. The Hawks dropped their first match of the season, falling 5-2, and moved to 4-1 on the season.
Quincy picked up an early point in doubles play as
Maria Sarria and
Anna Matino secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. William Woods answered with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
In singles, the Hawks earned their second point of the match at No. 4, where
Heidi Navas posted a straight-set victory over Charlotte Ready (6-2, 6-3). William Woods claimed the remaining singles matches to seal the team win.
The Hawks will be back in action on Friday, February 13, when they host Missouri–St. Louis at the Quincy Racquet Club.
