FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team earned its first victory of the 2026 season Friday night inside Woodward Gym, rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat Fort Valley State in five sets. After dropping the opening frames 18-25 and 21-25, the Hawks responded with 25-17 and 25-20 wins before securing a 16-14 victory in the decisive fifth set to move to 1-3 on the season.
Quincy finished the night with 42 kills while hitting .283 as a team, adding 13 service aces and 11 total blocks in the comeback effort.

Set 1

Fort Valley State seized early control of the match, capitalizing on Quincy miscues to build momentum. The Wildcats raced out to a 10-2 lead before Barnabas Fenyvesi recorded a kill and followed with back-to-back service aces to trim the deficit to 17-11. Fort Valley State responded out of a timeout with three consecutive kills to extend the margin to 20-11. Quincy answered with a brief 4-1 run, capped by a Tomas Badan service ace, but the Wildcats closed out the frame, 25-18. The Hawks hit .050 in the set compared to Fort Valley State's .286 clip.

Set 2

The second set featured a stronger start from Quincy, as kills from Fenyvesi and Zackary Zdrojeski, along with Wildcat errors, helped the Hawks jump ahead 5-2. Fort Valley State answered with a mid-set run to even the score at 8-8, and the teams traded points through much of the frame. Trailing 15-14, the Wildcats used consecutive kills to create separation and extended the advantage to 21-17. Quincy was unable to recover as Fort Valley State secured the set, 25-21.

Set 3

Facing a two-set deficit, the Hawks responded with renewed offensive efficiency. Kills from Bauer Larson and Trey Severson sparked a 10-5 advantage, and Quincy continued to build momentum with four additional kills and two Wildcat service errors to stretch the lead to 16-8. Fort Valley State trimmed the margin to 18-14 behind a pair of service aces, but a Badan ace and a Fenyvesi kill steadied the Hawks. Quincy closed out the set, 25-17, for its first set victory of the season.

Set 4

Both teams battled early in the fourth set, with the score tied at 8-8. Fenyvesi delivered three kills during a key stretch, while Badan and Zdrojeski added offensive production to keep the set level at 13-13. Quincy then produced a decisive 7-2 run, recording three kills and a service ace to build a 20-15 lead. Fort Valley State attempted a late push, but Isaiah Travis sealed the 25-20 victory with a service ace to even the match at two sets apiece.

The deciding set featured 10 ties and multiple momentum swings. The teams were knotted at 8-8 at the changeover, with Severson, Larson, and Fenyvesi contributing key kills. Neither side led by more than two points down the stretch.
