INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Junior
Sabian Russell has been named the GLVC Men's Wrestler of the Week after posting a perfect 2-0 record at 149 pounds in conference duals this past week.
Despite the Hawks dropping a pair of GLVC duals to ranked opponents, Russell provided a major bright spot in both matchups. Against No. 25 Indianapolis, Russell earned a gritty 5-3 decision over the 11th-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds, Gavin Garcia. He followed that performance with a dominant showing versus eighth-ranked McKendree, securing a 19-3 technical fall.
Russell becomes the third Hawk to earn GLVC Men's Wrestler of the Week honors this season, joining teammates
Brian Farley and
Jackson Jones. It also marks the third time Russell has received the award in his career, as he claimed the honor twice during the 2024-25 season.
Russell and the Hawks return to action on Sunday, February 1, when they travel to face Upper Iowa University. First bout is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Dorman Memorial Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa.
