Quincy Drops Season Opener to No. 19 Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped its season opener in straight sets to No. 19 Lindenwood University on Tuesday night inside Robert F. Hyland Arena. The Lions earned a 25-21, 25-12, 25-17 victory to improve to 4-1 on the season, extending their winning streak over the Hawks to ten matches.

Lindenwood scored the opening two points of the match before Bauer Larson recorded the Hawks' first point of the season with a kill. Trailing 4-2, Quincy responded with a four-point run to take a 6-4 lead, sparked by another Larson kill, two Lindenwood errors, and a service ace from Tomas Badan.

The two teams traded points throughout the middle portion of the set, as the score was tied at 13-13. Lindenwood then produced its first significant run of the night, rattling off four consecutive points aided by Quincy errors and a service ace.

Quincy trimmed the deficit to 22-20 late in the set, but the Lions closed strong, scoring three of the final four points to secure a 25-21 win.

Both teams were efficient offensively in the opening frame, with Quincy hitting .364 (11 kills) and Lindenwood hitting .375 (14 kills). The difference came at the service line, where the Lions recorded six aces compared to one for the Hawks.

The second set was controlled early by Lindenwood, which jumped out to a 5-1 lead behind a pair of kills and Quincy miscues. The Hawks briefly cut the margin to 8-7 following kills from Badan and Zackary Zdrojeski, but the Lions quickly regained momentum.

Lindenwood went on a decisive 10-1 run to open up a 17-8 advantage, registering six kills during the stretch. Quincy was unable to recover as Lindenwood continued to swing at an elite rate, closing the set with a 25-12 victory.

The Lions hit an impressive .579 in the set with 12 kills and just one error, while Quincy was held to a .000 hitting percentage with four kills and four errors. Lindenwood also added five service aces in the set.

Lindenwood once again seized early control in the third set, building a 6-2 lead behind four early kills. Quincy kept the set within reach as Lindenwood committed a few errors, trimming the deficit to 12-10.

The Lions then put the match away with a seven-point run, capitalizing on three Quincy errors and three additional kills. Quincy answered with three straight points, highlighted by a service ace from Barnabas Fenyvesi, to make it 20-15, but Lindenwood closed the match by scoring five of the final seven points to take the set 25-17.

Lindenwood finished the third set with 14 kills while hitting .296, while Quincy recorded six kills and six errors.

Lindenwood controlled the match statistically, finishing with a 40-21 advantage in kills and hitting .400 as a team compared to Quincy's .136. The Lions also held a 12-3 edge in service aces and out-dug the Hawks 19-14.

Quincy was led by Fenyvesi, who posted a team-high 8.0 points with five kills, two service aces, and two block assists. Larson added five kills, while Zdrojeski contributed four.

For Lindenwood, Owen Walsh and Luke Kraft each recorded eight kills while hitting over .400.

The Hawks face another ranked opponent in their next outing, traveling to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on No. 9 Lewis University at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
