ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — Quincy battled to the final whistle on Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 23-21 road loss to Roosevelt at Morris Field.
After falling behind 6-0 early, the Hawks found rhythm midway through the second quarter when quarterback
Bradyn Little capped an 83-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown run. Roosevelt answered just before halftime to take a 13-7 lead into the break.
Momentum swung back to the Hawks in the fourth quarter. On the very first play of the period, Little connected with
Aaron Baker for a 38-yard strike to put Quincy on top 14-13. Moments later, the defense came up big as
Caleb Aungst snagged an interception deep in Roosevelt territory, but the Hawks were unable to add points.
Quincy's special teams then delivered a highlight-reel play as
Ayden Bowe scooped up a blocked field goal and raced 82 yards to the end zone, giving the Hawks a 21-20 advantage with under nine minutes to play. Roosevelt responded with a field goal at the 4:22 mark, and a late Quincy drive stalled just inside the red zone after a missed kick in the final minute sealed the result.
Little finished with 232 passing yards and one touchdown through the air, while also adding a rushing score.
Kamrin Cox was a workhorse, hauling in 10 receptions for 62 yards and adding 45 yards on the ground. Defensively,
Brock Wiley led the way with eight tackles, while
Brock Inman and
Jai Williams each recorded sacks.
Quincy will be back in action on Saturday, September 20, when they travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, to face Lincoln University of Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
