Hawks Fall Just Short in Tight Battle with Missouri Valley

QUINCY, Ill. — The Quincy University women's tennis team came up just short in a closely contested 4-3 decision against visiting Missouri Valley College on Saturday morning (April 6) at the Quincy Racquet Club. The non-conference tilt marked the Hawks' final match before beginning Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.

Quincy claimed one of the three doubles match to begin things. At No. 2 doubles, Anna Matino and Ana Alvarez rolled to a 6-4 win, while Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova were narrowly edged 6-4 at No. 1. The decisive doubles point came down to the No. 3 matchup, where Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly fell 6-0 to give the Vikings the edge.

In singles play, the Hawks rallied behind strong performances from the top of the lineup. Panchal was dominant at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4, while Ismailova followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Matino added a third point for Quincy at No. 4, sweeping her opponent 7-5, 6-0.

Despite the early momentum, the Vikings claimed wins at the remaining three positions to secure the 4-3 result. Alvarez battled through a three-set marathon at No. 3 but came up short in the final frame, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-4. Hennessy and Kelly dropped straight-set contests at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
