QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's tennis team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play in impressive fashion on Thursday afternoon (April 11), earning a commanding 7-0 win over William Jewell College at Reservoir Park.
The Hawks (7-9, 1-0 GLVC) took control from the outset, sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly were awarded a win by default at No. 3, while the duo of Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova delivered a 6-1 victory at the top spot. Ana Alvarez and Anna Matino followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 to close out a strong doubles showing.
Quincy continued its momentum into singles, claiming straight-set wins on all courts. Brittney Kelly was awarded a default victory at No. 6 to extend the lead to 2-0. Alvarez rolled at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-1 performance, and Ismailova made quick work of her opponent on court two, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Hennessy earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5, followed by Matino's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4. Panchal capped off the sweep with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.
