PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Quincy University men's tennis team put together a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Prairie State College 7-0 at the Pioneer Sports Complex.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 10-6 on the season, reaching the double digit victories benchmark for the first time since the 2013-2014 season, where the team compiled an 11-10 record.
Quincy came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three courts. Gerard Abad Puig and Marko Cucuk set the tone at No. 3 with a commanding 6-0 win. Inigo Villacampa and Joseph Restrepo followed with a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Gianni Lopez and Rodrigo Coello Trevino clinched the sweep with a 6-3 victory at No. 2.
The Hawks carried their dominance into singles action, where they won all six matches in straight sets. Lopez set the pace at No. 3 with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win, followed closely by Restrepo's 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 and Villacampa's 6-4, 6-2 win at the top spot. Abad Puig was clinical in a 6-1, 6-1 performance at No. 4, while Coello Trevino (6-1, 6-4) and Pablo Mateos Niella (6-0, 6-0) closed out the sweep at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday, April 6, when they host Missouri Valley College for Senior Daya at Quincy Racquet Club. First serve is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
