Hawks Dropped by DU on the Road

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Quincy University women's tennis team fought through several tight matches in GLVC action on Friday afternoon but came up short in a 7-0 loss to Drury University at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Hawks were swept in doubles play, though the No. 1 pairing of Katrin Ismailova and Mahi Panchal put together a solid showing before falling 6-3. The Panthers controlled the other two doubles courts to secure the opening point.

Quincy found themselves in several competitive singles matches. At No. 2 singles, Ismailova pushed her opponent to three sets, battling to a 2-6, 6-4, 2-6 result. Ana Alvarez also forced a decisive third set at No. 3, winning the first 6-2 before ultimately falling 2-6, 3-6. Anna Matino nearly extended her match at No. 4, narrowly dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision.

Elsewhere, Panchal fell 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles spot, while Franca Piaggi and Fabiana Gutierrez secured straight-set wins for Drury over Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The Hawks will look to bounce back quickly as they continue GLVC play on Sunday, April 21, traveling to Bolivar, Missouri, to face Southwest Baptist University. First serve is set for 11:00 AM.
