ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Flyers offense was too much for the Hawks to handle in the series finale on Sunday (Apr. 13), as Lewis took down Quincy 19-9 in seven innings to win the series.
Lewis wasted no time finding the run column, rattling off four consecutive hits to take a 3-0 lead after one inning. Quincy scored one of their own in the second inning courtesy of a solo home run for
Harry Fandre, his sixth big fly of the season. But the Flyers answered with a home run of their own, except they put three runs on the board with one swing to extend their lead to 6-1.
For the third straight inning, the Flyers put a run on the board. It was a run-scoring single to center field to extend the lead to six. Quincy chipped away in the fourth inning, scoring three runs.
Byron Blaise picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly, and
Cole Erickson drove in a pair with a double to left field.
Heading into the home half of the fourth, the wheels came off for Quincy, as ten runs came across to score for the Flyers. The inning consisted of six hits, two errors, two hit-by-pitches, and a walk, and the Hawks found themselves trailing 17-4 after four innings of play.
The Hawks put two more runs on the board in the fifth after RBI hits from Blaise and
Joe Huffman each drove in a run. The offense continued for the Flyers in the home half, hitting their third home run of the game to answer the two runs put up by Quincy.
QU struck for three more runs in the sixth inning after
Ben Dahlof hit his second home run of the season. The Hawks had a pair of singles in the seventh inning but were unable to extend the game by driving anyone in, as a flyout to right field put an end to game four.
With the Hawks dropping three out of four, they move to 16-22 on the season, 9-11 in conference play, which has them outside the top eight in tenth place. For Lewis, they move to 28-8 overall, and a GLVC best 17-3 conference record.
Quincy will look to bounce back next weekend, as they will have another road trip on their hands. The Hawks will travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, to take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University for a four-game series. Game one will take place on Thursday (Apr. 17), with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM CDT.
