ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University men's tennis team put up a strong fight on the road Tuesday (Apr. 1), but fell 5-2 to the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Hawks earned one victory in doubles play, as Gianni Lopez and Rodrigo Coello Trevino secured a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. However, the Tritons claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the first point of the match.
In singles action, Quincy picked up two victories. Inigo Villacampa delivered a strong performance at No. 1, winning a hard-fought battle 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 over Alejandro Ley. Gerard Abad Puig also claimed a victory for the Hawks at No. 4 singles, rallying for a 7-6 (10-8), 6-0 win against Joan Garros.
Despite those efforts, UMSL took control in the remaining singles matches. Joseph Restrepo fell at No. 2 singles (1-6, 2-6), Lopez came up short in a close No. 3 singles contest (3-6, 6-7), and Coello Trevino (2-6, 3-6) and Pablo Mateos Niella (0-6, 2-6) were unable to overcome their opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Quincy will look to bounce back on April 5 when they travel to Chicago Heights, Illinois, to face Prairie State College. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
