QUINCY, Ill. - After having an explosive weekend at the plate against Drury to earn the Hawks first GLVC POTW selection since Austin Simpson did so back on 5/6/24, Matt Mateo was named the Toyota Star of the Week for the first time in his career. 

The Toyota Star of the Week aims to highlight the top Quincy University performers for the given week across all 28 Hawks' sports. Toyota has been a continued sponsor of QU Athletics, supporting all Hawks to soar to new heights. 

Mateo had a fantastic weekend at the plate, hitting .526 (10-19) with a walk for a .550 on base percentage while also swiping two bags. 

The Kissimmee, Florida native ripped four homers and a triple over four games, boasting an impressive 1.263 slugging percentage while driving in 10 runs, and scoring seven. 

The strong weekend of play for the Hawks' outfielder was highlighted by a 5-5 performance in Quincy's 20-1 victory in game two of the series over Drury, where Mateo blasted a trio of homers, driving in six and scoring five with a stolen base. 

Mateo ranks second on the squad in batting average (.377) and first in OPS (1.171) among qualified hitters, while also leading that team in hits (43), total bases (77), slugging (.675), on base percentage (.526) and stolen bases (11). 

Mateo and the Hawks are back in action this weekend, hosting the Greyhounds of UIndy for a four-game series at QU Stadium from Friday-Sunday (Apr. 4-6).
