BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Quincy University women's tennis team put up a strong fight on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 20) but came up short in a 4-2 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan at BHS.
The Hawks (6-7) found themselves in an early deficit after dropping the doubles point. Oklahoma Wesleyan (11-3) secured wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the advantage, though Quincy's top duo of Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova fought hard for a 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, Quincy earned two wins but was unable to complete the comeback. Panchal delivered a strong performance at No. 1, taking down her opponent 6-4, 7-5. Ana Alvarez added another point for the Hawks with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
The Eagles secured the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, as Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly each fell in straight sets. At No. 2 singles, Ismailova took the first set but ultimately dropped a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 battle. The No. 4 match featuring Anna Matino was left unfinished with the third set in progress.
Quincy will return to action on March 29, traveling to St. Louis, Missouri, to face the University of Missouri - St. Louis. First serve is set for 12:00 PM.
