Hawks Fall to Minnesota State at Home

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's tennis team battled against a tough Minnesota State University, Mankato squad on Tuesday afternoon but came up short in a 7-0 defeat at Reservoir Park.

The Hawks (5-5) put up a fight in doubles play but ultimately dropped two of the three matches. Ana Alvarez and Anna Matino secured the lone doubles victory for Quincy, earning a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position. However, the Mavericks (5-1) took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to claim the opening point.

Minnesota State carried its momentum into singles, sweeping all six matches in straight sets. Mahi Panchal fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Katrin Ismailova pushed her opponent in the first set but ultimately dropped a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 decision at No. 2. Alvarez battled at No. 3 singles but was edged out 7-5, 6-4.

The Mavericks took control in the lower singles spots, as Matino fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, Hennessy dropped a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 5, and Kelly was defeated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Next Up

Quincy will look to bounce back on March 16 when they travel to Clarksville, Arkansas, to take on the University of the Ozarks. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
