Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team hosted the Saints of Maryville for their penultimate home game of the season at Pepsi Arena, falling behind early before roaring back late in the second half to deal MU the loss by an 82-75
final score.
Max Booher got the scoring started for Quincy, finding the bottom of the net for three to answer a 5-0 game-opening swing from Maryville. After trailing by as many as seven points in the early going, a 14-3 QU run over the next four minutes propelled the Hawks to their first lead of the game at 17-16.
By the 6:50 mark of the first half, the Quincy advantage swelled to 27-20 on another Booher three-ball, prompting an 11-0 swing from the Saints to move back to the forefront at 31-27. QU was able to regain the lead 34-33 on a pair of Booher scores before two Saints buckets to close out the half gave Maryville a 38-34 edge at the break.
The Saints got off to a strong start in the second half, building their lead to double digits at 55-43 by the first media timeout of the frame. Over the next six or so minutes, QU held Maryville to just three points while pouring in 14 of its own to pull back within a point at the 9:35 mark on a
Joshua Bocher jumper.
Just over three minutes later, another Bocher bucket knotted the score at 63-63 before a
Jake Hamilton strike from deep put the Hawks ahead 66-63 with 5:07 on the clock.
Quincy never trailed from that point on, mixing timely buckets with clutch defense to close the door on the Saints and take the ballgame 82-75.
Booher led the way for QU in scoring, hitting five threes as part of a 23-point effort, a new career mark for the Hawks' freshman.
Camren Kincaid added 16 points while collecting six of both rebounds and assists.
Joshua Bocher was the final Hawk in double figures, dropping 11 points in 20 minutes.
Tiernan Stynes spearheaded the Quincy rebounding effort, pulling down 10 boards to go with eight points, finishing just short of a double-double, but doing the lion's share of the work in giving his side a +9 margin in rebounding.
The Hawks shot 40.9% from beyond the arch in the contest while turning in a 47.8% shooting performance as a team, thanks in no small part to an explosive 63.33% shooting as a squad in the final 20 minutes, helping QU make good on the second half comeback effort.
