Quincy Overwhelms Drury Behind Kincaid’s Double-Double

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy men's basketball team led for the entirety of the contest, sparked by a monster performance from Camren Kincaid to earn its first GLVC victory of the season, defeating Drury 72-55 Saturday afternoon inside Pepsi Arena.

Quincy came out with early energy, jumping out to a 9-3 lead behind four points from Ethan Bolton and a quick five from Camren Kincaid. After the fast start, both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm, trading empty possessions and turnovers for much of the opening half. Still, the Hawks never relinquished the lead, leaning heavily on Kincaid, who controlled the game on both ends of the floor. The junior guard logged 19 of the 20 minutes before intermission and already posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds at halftime on 4-of-7 shooting.

Drury endured a brutal stretch in the first half, going just 2-for-16 over a 12-minute span and being outscored 15-6 during that window as Quincy built its largest first-half advantage at 28-12 with under a minute to play. The Panthers were able to close the half on a quick 4-0 mini-run to cut the deficit to 28-16 heading into the locker room.

Offense was scarce for both teams early, as the two sides combined for 22 first-half turnovers. Neither team capitalized, converting the mistakes into only six total points. Quincy shot 42 percent in the opening half, while limiting Drury to just 6-for-29 from the field and 1-for-12 from deep. The Hawks also established control on the boards early, holding a commanding 28-13 rebounding edge at the break.

The second half belonged to Quincy from the opening whistle. After being held scoreless in the first 20 minutes, Tiernan Stynes sparked the Hawks with seven points during a 13-5 run over the first four minutes, pushing the lead to 20. Drury could not cut into the margin, as Stynes continued his scoring burst with six more points during a stretch where Quincy extended the advantage to 54-34 halfway through the half.

Any hopes of a comeback were shut down at the free-throw line, where the Hawks were nearly flawless down the stretch. Quincy kept Drury at arm's length the rest of the way, never allowing the Panthers to get closer than 16 in the second half.

Quincy finished the night shooting 41.5 percent from the field while holding Drury to just 30 percent overall and 23 percent from beyond the arc, both defensive season bests. The Hawks were outstanding at the stripe, converting 23-of-27 free throws, and completely owned the boards with a 52-29 rebounding advantage. The lone blemish came in the turnover column, as the Hawks committed 21 turnovers for the third time this season.

Kincaid led the way for the third straight contest, pouring in 19 points while hauling in a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists. Stynes finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, all of his scoring coming in the second half. Max Booher reached double figures despite a tough shooting night, going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line to remain flawless from the stripe this season. Bolton continued his efficient play with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and added eight rebounds, while Jakeb Wallingford anchored the defense with two blocks and two steals.

The Hawks will return to action next Friday when they head to Joplin, Missouri, for a non-conference matchup with Missouri Southern. Tipoff from Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
