Hawks Cruise Past Purdue Northwest to Move to 3–1 Behind Red-Hot Shooting

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team stayed scorching from the field for the second straight outing, rolling past Purdue Northwest 80–62 inside Pepsi Arena to improve to 3–1 on the year. The Hawks controlled the game from the opening tip, racing out to a dominant 20–4 first-quarter lead and never looking back as they secured their third win of the young season.

Quincy's offense clicked immediately, opening the game on a 12–2 run fueled by paint touches and early scoring from Acheampomaa Danso, Blair Eftink, and Hampton Williams. The Hawks overwhelmed the Pride defensively in the first quarter, holding PNW to just two made field goals on 13 attempts, while a pair of threes from Eftink capped a 20-4 opening frame. The second quarter brought more of the same, as QU extended the lead to as many as 22 points behind mid-range buckets from Danso and Sydney Runsewe. Purdue Northwest finally found some offensive rhythm late in the half, but another steady finish from Quincy sent the Hawks into halftime with a 37–19 advantage.

The Pride made their best push early in the third quarter, using free throws and a deep three to cut the deficit to 12. Quincy calmly responded, and once again it was the Hawks' shooting that shut the door. Fast-break attacks, a pull-up three from Katey Flynn, and steady interior scoring from Danso sparked a 20–8 run that ballooned the lead back above 20. Flynn caught fire in the quarter, scoring 13 of her game-high 19 during that stretch to send QU into the fourth with a commanding 62–47 lead. The Hawks controlled the final period with poised offense and timely stops, never allowing PNW to threaten the margin en route to the 18-point victory.

Quincy's offense was exceptional all afternoon, shooting a blistering 58.2% from the field and 35.7% from three, marking the third game this season in which the team shot over 50% shooting as a team. The Hawks dominated the interior, winning points in the paint 48–10, a massive margin that helped keep the lead safe even when PNW made outside shots. QU was also strong on the glass, posting a 39–25 rebounding edge, which limited second-chance opportunities for the Pride and fueled transition chances. Defensively, Quincy forced 18 turnovers and converted them into 22 points, maintaining control every time Purdue Northwest attempted a run. The combination of elite efficiency, paint scoring, and defensive disruption carried the Hawks to their highest scoring output of the season.

Katey Flynn put together another standout performance, scoring 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting, while adding five rebounds, four assists, and two steals in an all-around effort. Acheampomaa Danso matched her with 19 points of her own, going 8-for-12 from the field and setting a career high with eight made field goals, while also grabbing six boards. Blair Eftink continued her strong offensive stretch with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, surpassing 600 career points in the process. Hampton Williams was the engine of the offense all game long, finishing with seven points and a career-high six assists, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Off the bench, Reagan Reed provided eight points and six boards, and Sydney Runsewe added six points on efficient shooting.

The Hawks will return to the floor on Tuesday, November 25, traveling to Emporia, Kansas, for their first true road game of the season as they take on Emporia State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
