QUINCY, Ill. – On a cold and rainy afternoon at QU Stadium, the Quincy University football team could not find its rhythm against one of the nation's best, falling 49–3 to No. 12 Indianapolis on Saturday. The loss moves the Hawks to 5–4 overall and 3–3 in GLVC play, while the Greyhounds improve to 8–1 on the year and a perfect 6–0 in conference, showcasing why they boast the No. 2 offense in NCAA Division II.
UIndy struck first midway through the opening quarter with a short rushing touchdown, then added a 40-yard score through the air just two minutes later to seize a 14–0 lead. Quincy's offense struggled to establish momentum early, hampered by several dropped passes and a relentless Greyhound pass rush. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 21–0 in the second quarter before
Conor McAneney snuck a 38-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired in the half for the Hawks' only points.
The Greyhounds came out firing after halftime, stringing together three straight touchdown drives — including scoring strikes of 11 and 49 yards — to stretch the advantage to 42–3 by the end of the third quarter. A 53-yard touchdown run early in the fourth sealed the outcome as UIndy's explosive offense continued to overwhelm the Hawks on both the ground and through the air.
Statistically, the difference was stark. Quincy managed just 192 yards of total offense (29 rushing, 163 passing) compared to UIndy's 536 (187 rushing, 349 passing). The 192 yards marked the fewest total yards recorded by the Hawks this season, while the 536 allowed were the most given up by Quincy's defense all year. The Hawks were held to 3.1 yards per play and went 5-for-16 on third-down conversions, while the Greyhounds averaged eight yards per snap and scored on all four red-zone trips.
Defensively, Quincy was led by
Brock Inman, who posted 11 tackles — his second double-digit effort of the season — bringing his season total to 72.
Jaylin Vaughn tallied a career-high 10 tackles, including a sack, while
Brock Wiley and
Jacob Duke each contributed several stops against UIndy's balanced attack.
It does not get any easier for Quincy as the Hawks hit the road next week to face another top team in the conference — Upper Iowa University, who sits at 7–2 overall and 5–1 in GLVC play following a blowout win over McKendree on Saturday. The Peacocks have won three straight games and have won their last five home games. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 8th, from Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette, Iowa.
