Quincy Dominates Cardinals in Straight Sets

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a dominant sweep over William Jewell (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) inside Pepsi Arena.

In the opening set, Quincy traded points early with William Jewell before pulling ahead midway through. A string of kills from Susanna Beretti and Erin Matzke pushed the Hawks into a lead they would not surrender. Late in the frame, Elena Kasavica set up Beretti for the final kill to secure the 25-21 win.

Set two saw Quincy seize control right from the first serve. The Hawks raced out to a 5-0 advantage behind strong serving from Kasavica and powerful swings from Beretti and Selin Turgut. William Jewell chipped away with short runs, but the Hawks' offense was too much as Beretti tallied six kills in the frame and Quincy rolled to a 25-18 victory.

The Hawks closed the door in the third set, using another early surge to create separation. Beretti continued her dominant performance with five more kills, while Kasavica added an ace to stretch the lead. Quincy's efficiency at the net proved decisive, as they hit .333 in the final frame on their way to a 25-16 win and the sweep.

Quincy finished the match hitting a strong .304 as a team, compared to William Jewell's .171. The Hawks posted 47 kills, four aces, and 59 digs while limiting the Cardinals to just 33 kills.

Individually, Beretti recorded 19 kills on .361 hitting to lead all players. Matzke added seven kills on .429 efficiency, and Zeynep Cetin chipped in six kills at a blistering .556 clip. Pye-Blacknard contributed eight kills, 16 digs, and surpassed 400 career points with her performance. Kasavica directed the offense with 31 assists and added two aces and 11 digs. The sophomore setter also surpassed 2,000 career assists and reached 500 career digs, achieving two significant milestones in the win. Libero Lilly Marth was steady in the back row with seven digs, and Turgut filled the stat sheet with four kills, 10 digs, and a block.

With the sweep, Quincy improves to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in GLVC play, bouncing back strong at home. The Hawks will now turn their attention to the Midwest Region Crossover, held October 17–18 in Hammond, Indiana. Matchups and times for the massive collegiate volleyball tournament will be announced next week.
