Quincy Edged in Tight Battle at Bourke Field

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought battle on the road Friday evening, falling 1-0 to GLVC-leading Rockhurst at Bourke Field.

The opening half was a defensive grind, with both teams battling to establish possession. Quincy managed three first-half shots, including an effort on target from Alvaro Heredia Garcia in the 44th minute, but Rockhurst's goalkeeper came up with the stop to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.

The Hawks from Kansas City gradually built pressure in the second half, forcing QU keeper Jake Offerman into a pair of saves. Quincy's back line, anchored by Paal Vistnes and Jake Ellis, held firm through 75 minutes before Rockhurst finally broke through in the 80th minute, converting on a rebound for what proved to be the decisive goal.

Quincy continued to push forward in the closing minutes, with looks from Josh Nwosu and Ismael Allimadi, but could not find the equalizer as Rockhurst extended its unbeaten run in league play.

Statistically, Rockhurst outshot Quincy 12-6 and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Offerman finished with three saves between the posts. On the attacking side, Quincy's six shots came from a balanced effort, including attempts by Carlos Moreno Henao, Leo Cann, Heredia Garcia, and Allimadi.

The loss dropped Quincy to 6-3-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst improved to 7-2-2 and stayed undefeated in conference play at 6-0-2.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, October 12th, as they look to get back in the win column against Southwest Baptist University. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar, Missouri.
