Hawks Start off 2025 with Win

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team opened up their new year with an exciting win over the Lincoln University of Missouri Blue Tigers on Friday night (Jan. 3). The Hawks went 50 percent from the field for an 80-49 victory.

Lincoln started the match with a layup, but after jousting with the Blue Tigers for the lead, Quincy took over on back-to-back layups by Acheampomaa Danso. The Blue Tigers gave the Hawks freedom from the key, going three for four from three. Mariann Blass scored two of those shots and Janiece Dawson sank a three on her own to help the Hawks outscore the Blue Tigers 21-8 after ten minutes of play.

Blass led the Hawks again in the second quarter with nine points. She scored the lone three of the quarter after the Blue Tigers forced the Hawks to close range shots. Taylor Haase scored a layup and drew an and-one foul that balanced out Lincoln's lone three-pointer of the half. The Hawks were efficient in their shooting in the second quarter, going 9-15 from the field.

The third quarter saw eight points from senior Cymirah Williams and points from four other Hawks. The Hawks succeeded in limiting the Blue Tigers again to only nine points after halftime, taking their lead to 33 points with ten minutes to go.

Quincy started the fourth quarter with back-to-back three pointers from Janiece Dawson and Sydney Runsewe. The Blue Tigers made a small seven-point run in the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Hawks shut it down quickly and regained their momentum to finish their first outing of 2025 strong.

Three Hawks finished in the double digits--Blass, Williams, and Karsyn Stratton. Williams led the Hawks with eight rebounds while Stratton dished out the most assists with five.

The Hawks will have a little break with Sunday's game against University of Missouri - St. Louis being postponed to a new date. The Hawks' next matchup will be against the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis on Thursday, January 9th.
