Kirksville, Mo. - The Quincy University swim program opened its third year of competition at Truman State University on Saturday (Sept. 28). The men opened with a win over the Bulldogs 111.5 to 93.5, while the women fell 148 to 57.
Women's Results
The women's 200 medley began the meet on Saturday with Quincy's top group placing second at 1:52.56. Freshmen
Olga Pucarevic and
Vanja Vrbanec were placed with returners
Izabella Sparrow and
Faith Cummings in the medley.
Kaitlynn Malarney broke Quincy's top ten times in the 1000 freestyle with a huge come back toward the end of the race to finish with a 11:36.85.
Izabella Sparrow recorded second place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle with times of 25.30 and 55.40 respectively.
Junior
Faith Cummings and freshman
Olga Pucarevic were the lone Hawks to secure first place swims. Cummings' speed during the 100-yard breaststroke put her a whole second in front of the Bulldogs at 1:08.12. Pucarevic took over the 100-yard butterfly with a sub-minute time of 59.85.
Men's Results
The Quincy men did exceptionally well in Kirksville this weekend. The 200 medley team of
Brendan Worster,
Andrej Golubovic,
Borna Kisasondi, and
Ian Caballero reigned the race with a 1:34.08 time. Two Hawks teams finished before the Bulldogs in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quad of
Denislav Koykov,
Jordan Settumba Paulson,
Martiniano Montero, and
Ian Caballero finished in 1:26.42, winning the heat.
In individual events, Kisasondi and Montero finished one and two in the 50-yard freestyle with 21.49 and 21.63 times. Kisasondi also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.46.
Other major points came from newcomers to the Hawks team. Freshman
Wojciech Chalat secured his first collegiate first-place swim in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:21.45.
Juri Bauer and
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco secured 13 points on first and second place swims in the 100-yard backstroke. Koykov finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:55.51 time.
"This was a great debut for this year's campaign," said Coach
Bryan Christiansen. "We knew we were going against a very talented women's team who had people at NCAAs last year, but to sneak a few wins and give them a good scare in some other events. Our freshman crushed it."
"We were down some people on the men's side, but even though at one point Truman came within five points, we were never losing this meet from start to finish. We assuredly have some work to do but we can rest tonight knowing we went in and got the job done."
The Hawks look to make a splash against Division I opponent Valparaiso University on October 18th in Valparaiso, Indiana.
