Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team finished in a draw Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) against the University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars. The Hawks move to 1-1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Hawks dominated the Prairie Stars in the first half of play and enjoyed the fruits of their labor when
Reegan Hess tricked a defender on a stutter step and sent the ball to the upper right corner for the Hawks lone goal of the game. Junior
Ella Wolfard was credited with the assist.
Things were quiet for goalkeeper
Julia Mincher in the first half, but she quickly became busy in the second. The Prairie Stars took eleven shots in second half to their one shot in the first. A free player on the back post tied up the game for the Prairie Stars with just 14 minutes to go in the game.
Illinois Springfield was also awarded a possible game-winning penalty kick late in the match. Mincher dove to the right and blocked the shot, saving the Hawks from a 2-1 deficit late in the game.
The Hawks will spend some time on the road in the next few weeks and will return to the Jack on October 11th to face the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University.
