Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University softball team continued their home slate against the Drury Panthers on Saturday (April 6). The Panthers' strong offense propelled them past the Hawks, falling 12-3 and 7-3 in the doubleheader.
Game One
Both teams started the windy game day with goose eggs on the scoreboard.
Allyson Maynard and
Mykah Hurley had the play of the first inning, Maynard throwing a missile to second to catch the runner stealing.
The Panthers put up a one-run home run at the start of the second, but the Hawks infield was able to shut down the offense for the remainder of the half inning. The Hawks were able to get one of their own with
Lindsey Fischer drawing a lead-off walk and
Ailene Walker bringing her home on ground-out RBI.
The Panthers came back to score four in the third, including another two-run homer from the Panthers, despite
Allison Kaiser snatching it above the wall.
Eileen McGinnis retired
Abbey Hultz, striking out one in her first inning in.
Allyson Maynard hit herself a home run deep toward left field, giving the Hawks their second run of the game. Maddy Findlay crossed the plate on a Walker double play, reaching home before Fischer was thrown out at second.
The rest of the game was all Panthers, scoring 12 runs on 16 hits. McGinnis was retired with one out left in the game,
Madison Peck taking her spot in the circle.
Game Two
The Panthers offense struck again, this time hitting three singles to the outfield to help them bring three runners around.
The Hawks were quiet until the seventh inning, down seven runs. The Hawks played into errors from the Panthers' short stop, moving around the bags and bringing Hurley,
Ryleigh Jones, and
Jessie Martin home.
KJ Weller got the start for game two, playing all seven innings and striking out two.
