ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Hawks concluded their season taking on the Flyers of Lewis for the final series of the 2024 campaign. Quincy got strong defensive and pitching efforts but weren't able to get much going with the bats in a 3-1 loss in game one and 4-2 defeat in game two.
Game One
Neither side was able to scratch across a run in the first three innings as QU loaded the bases in the second but wasn't able to convert. Quincy starter,
Abbey Hultz, worked three clean innings surrendering just a single and collecting a pair of strikeouts.
LU opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, using three singles, a pair of steals and a sacrifice fly to plate a pair of runs.
The Hawks answered with their lone run in the fifth, using a hit-by-pitch and single from
Isabella Shields to put two before advancing the runners on a sacrifice bunt.
Kenzie Moss brought around the run to score in the next at-bat, taking advantage of an error on the infield to halve the deficit at 2-1.
Lewis added the final tally of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a long ball to seal a 3-1 victory in game one.
Game Two
The Flyers got on the board early in the second contest of the day, using a one-out homer to center to jump out front 1-0 after one.
Quincy got on the board in the fourth, using a one-out single from
Allyson Maynard followed by a walk and ground ball to put a pair of runners in scoring position with two down.
Maddy Findley ripped a base hit to left center in the next at-bat to plate a pair of runs and ut the Hawks ahead 2-1.
Lewis answered with a lead-off homer in the bottom half of the inning to knot the score at 2-2 before adding the final two runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth on a walk, two hits and a fielders choice to close out a 4-2 winner.
