INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Hawks were doomed by an eruptive start from their host, the Greyhounds of University of Indianapolis on Saturday (Apr. 13) at Key Stadium. 10 goals for UIndy in the first 15 minutes did much in deciding the outcome in a 17-7 loss for QU.
Quincy went scoreless in the first and third periods while scoring the only goals of the second period of play and splitting the final 15 minutes.
The Greyhounds found the back of the net 10 time to open the game without an answer until the Hawks put together a solid second quarter, holding UIndy off the scoreboard and halving the deficit with five scores.
Jordan Ernst converted the first goal on a man-up opportunity off a feed from
Mason Marano followed by a score from Marano along with one from
Caidyn Prediger less than a minute later.
Sean Usher scored shortly after that along with a goal for
Jayme Brain with a little over a minute remaining to make it 10-5.
Indianapolis responded in an equal and opposite manner after the break, scoring on five occasions in the third while holding the Hawks scoreless to rebuild the advantage to 15-5.
Marano kicked off the scoring 25 seconds into the fourth with his second of the contest on a pass from Prediger during a QU power-play before a pair of Greyhound shots found the back of the net to add to the lead.
Nick Woodworth scored the final goal of the contest shortly before the five-minute mark to narrow the final margin to a 17-7 defeat for the Hawks on the road.
