Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team hosted #14 University of Indianapolis on Friday night (April 12) under the lights of QU Stadium. Despite a strong start from the Hawks, the Greyhounds came out on top 18-7.
The Hawks began the game rattling the Greyhounds with three unanswered goals.
Danielle Robinson started it off for the Hawks with two, including one woman-up goal and
Anni Moran split the goals with one of her own, also woman-up.
Indianapolis responded and took the lead, but the Hawks fought back with a responsive goal from
Amelia Ham. Moran had her second of the first in the final seconds of the quarter to tie it back up at five.
The Hawks faltered in the second quarter, giving up four unanswered goals to the Greyhounds. Goalie
Kelly McClure had another standout game, specifically in this second quarter, saving some key free position shots and making some big time saves. At the end of the half, she tallied nine saves.
The Hawks scored twice more in the second half as the Greyhounds began to understand their offensive tendencies. Moran drew a free position shot toward the beginning of the third while senior
Patricia Chavira scored the final Hawks goal in the front half of the final quarter.
McClure finished with an astounding 17 saves and five turnovers. Chavira led the team with five draw controls and led the field players with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Hawks received votes for their performance last weekend against Maryville in the IWLCA poll and played a tough game against the nationally-ranked Greyhounds. The Hawks look to find more success in their game against the Lewis Flyers on Sunday.
