INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) recognized its 2023-24 men's basketball season awards on Wednesday (Mar. 6), honoring two Hawks for their performance and sportsmanship during the season.
Senior guard,
Zion Richardson, secured a Second Team All-GLVC nod after a tremendous 23-24 season. Richardson finished as the leagues third-high scorer (17.7) and fifth best rebounder (7.2) to lead the Hawks in both catagories along with a team-lead in made field goals, made three-pointers, made free throws, free throw percentage and minutes played.
Richardson's 15 rebound performance at SBU on 1/27 marked the most rebounds in a contest by a Hawk since Marcus Hinton pulled down 19 boards in a game against Grand Valley on 11/11/17. In addition, a career-high 33-point game against Rockhurst on 2/1 and a 30-point game against Upper Iowa on 1/13 cemented Richardson as one of three individuals in the conference, joining the leagues two top scorers, to eclipse the 30-point mark in multiple games.
Sophomore forward,
Mason Wujek, was recognized as a recipient of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award for outstanding and ethical behavior and sportsmanship on and off the court. On the hardwood, the Frisco, TX native averaged 7.7 points on a .531 shooting percentage adding 4.3 rebounds per contest. Wujek poured in a career-high 18 points paired with 11 rebounds in a double-double effort that led to a 75-73 Hawks win on 1/11.
