QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team hosted the number 11 team in the country in the Ramblers of Loyola University-Chicago on Thursday (Mar. 21) in Pepsi Arena.
Raje Alleyne extended his double-digit kills streak to five matches while collecting his 100th career block in what was otherwise a night to forget for QU, dropping the match in three sets (15-25, 16-25, 16, 25).
Set One
The Hawks fell behind 7-1 to open the set and were never able to recover from the early stumble, knocking the lead down to as little as four at 9-5 on a kill from
Logan Gieseke, but had little success pressing any further than that. QU narrowed the margin to five on a three-point run featuring errors and an ace from Alleyne to make it 18-13 but it was all Ramblers after that, taking seven the last nine to close out a 25-15 first set winner.
Set Two
Pairs of kills for Alleyne and
Keegan Carey along with two errors found the Hawks trailing by a 9-6 score before Loyola used three-straight three-point runs to block the set wide open at 18-8 as part of a 9-2 run. Quincy pitched a little comeback effort in the late stages, taking four of five points to make it 19-13 on a trio of kills for Alleyne along with a termination for
Aleksandar Sosa and blocks for Sosa and Gieseke. LUC went on to claim a 25-16 winner in the second frame.
Set Three
Two kills from
Zackary Zdrojeski and one from
AJ Goedheer along with errors found QU trailing 8-5 in the early going. The Ramblers turned up the pressure from there, doubling up Quincy to a 14-7 score and continuing to ride the momentum all the way to the finish line for a 25-16 set and 3-0 match victory.
