LEBANON, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team continued its MIVA conference slate with another matchup against the Bearcats of McKendree on Friday (Mar. 1).
Raje Alleyne led all players in kills with a 19 terminations in the match, but it wasn't enough to over power MCK as the Hawks fell in straight sets (21-25, 21-25, 24-26).
Set One
QU fell behind early before using a three-point run to knott the score at 7-7 on a kill from
Zackary Zdrojeski, an error and block assists for
Relja Milosavljevic,
Dylan Feely and Alleyne. McKendree responded by taking eight of the next 10 points to open a 15-9 advantage.
Quincy answered by taking seven of the next 10 points to narrow the margin to just two at 18-16 and shortly after cut the deficit to a single point at 20-19 on a collective blocking effort from Alleyne,
Keegan Carey and
Logan Gieseke. Two points later a kill from Alleyne kept the Hawks within a point at 21-20 before the Bearcats took four of the final five points to close out a 25-21 victory in the first set.
Set Two
MCK got things cooking early in the second set, doubling up Quincy to a 12-6 score to open the frame. Seven of the next 10 points went in favor of Quincy to get right back in the set, trailing 15-13.
McKendree took seven of the next nine points to replenish the advantage to 21-16 heading down the stretch. QU took the next three points on an error and back-to-back aces from
Dylan Feely to pull back within two before MCK grabbed four of the final six points and a 25-21 winner in the second set.
Set Three
QU took the initiative early in the third set, claiming nine of the first 15 points capped off by another kill for Zdrojeski to make it 9-6. The Bearcats took five of the next six points to spring back out to the forefront with an 11-10 edge.
The Hawks proved equal to the task, firing right back with five of the next six points to maneuver into a 15-12 lead. Four of the five QU points came on kills from Alleyne including the final three consecutively.
MCK equalized shortly after at 16-16 before the sides went point-for-point for the next 15 scores, finding the match at a 24-23 advantage for Quincy. McKendree went on to take the final three points of the set for a 26-24 winner and sweep of the match.

The Hawks have a very quick turnaround, returning home for a match against the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial just a day later on Saturday (Mar. 2). First serve is slated for 7:00 PM from Pepsi Arena.
